A mate rang me yesterday, asking if I know of a place to ceramic coat headers and if I wanna join him with mine.
Didn't give it much thought before, just thought I'd clean them once with a cheap material that will give them back the gloss and glare but now.. Googled some pics of ceramic coating, mostly saw kind of grey-ish which looked good to me.
Was wandering - what are the advantages and disadvantages for this coating? except for it looking good (IMO)?

From whats been said here ,,it looks good for a while , then craps out and looks shoddy again,,,,why not remove the headers and do a exhaust wrap job ,,,looks good with a proper job and has benefits for more complete burning of unspent fuel,,,like I said if done properly it looks good and trick too,,,,,just a thought,,,

2 friend of mine did ceramic coating on their headers. The cbr600fs stayed nice and it looks clean after a few months riding it but the coating fell off the SP1 headers after just one ride, even turned black ish. Both were baked in the oven like the can said.
At the exhaust manufacturer I worked they've had ceramic coated headers for one model but over time a lot of them had problems like described above. I think it's better to sand blast the headers and spray clear exhaust laquer/paint over it to prevent corrosion.

Depends on the type of coating. Many are just high temp paint or powder coat.
True ceramic coating is either sprayed on with a molten plasma gun or extremely high temp powder baked.
I have my bike on the Dyno in the next 3 weeks and am testing true ceramic coated headers.
I will post the results.
Benefits of coated headers are proven with 2 strokes but not on 4's

I had mine done when the bike was new, the company that did it claimed to do work for Aston Martin as well as some other big names.
Few months down the line it started coming off/ wearing through.
It did look good when first done but I wouldn't bother again

+1 it looks good then wears and chips off. If you have it on The SD it'll get tore up with the majority of the headers under the bike. After it does chip off you have the joy of trying to figure out how to get the rest of the shit off.
