Hi guys, As the weathers crap and not much chance of getting out on the bike I'm thinking of changing the airbox, removing the flies etc just to see how she goes. Can any of you guys tell me what effect the above mods have on fuel consumption? My bike is standard apart from Akras/dealer map and averages about mid to high thirties to the UK gallon, so about 100-110 miles before the light comes on. As petrol stations are often few and far between up here I dont want to make any mods that make it thirstier than it already is!

Fuel consumption, what's that? Smile per miles is what it brings in a bucket load
I haven't really noticed any difference in consumption since fitting the box/removing flies. The only reason it might go down is because you want to hear it roar all the time, but you can cruise around town at lower RPM's too though. I never noticed much between floggin it or driving miss Daisy for that matter either.
What model have you got?

Nope, it's an '07 so has the bigger tank. I'm all for smiles per mile an dont care much about cost but it's a real bitch being out the North West coast with the fuel light on and bugger all sign of a petrol station in the next hundred miles. I've had an RSV, MZ 1000SF and Guzzi Griso and modded them all with open airboxes and better cans, so have been there before. The RSV drank juice like no tomorrow, 25-30 mpg, sounded amazing but was usless as anything other than a toy, so put it back to standard. The Guzzi went loads better and sounded fantastic but used slightly less, 45-50 mpg. The modded MZ was mental but managed to use less fuel unless you were realy thrashing it, usually did mid forties.
If the open airbox and other mods were going to take it down to the levels of my old RSV I'd leave well alone as the bike runs well anyway.

I had an 05/06 SD with 07 bigger tank and I saw similar milages to what you have stock with akras/pc3/motohooligan air box, dont ever recall <100 miles with road use.
Never worked out MPG on any bike or car I have ever owned

Thanks guys, sounds like there's not a lot in it so I'm off to treat myself to some new bits for the SD Probably go the CPR route on cost grounds but prefer the look of the Hooligan or DNA box, anybody in the UK got one for sale at a reasonable price?

Sorry for intruding your sausage party with the MPG and all but...
That MZ is quite a unique machine man! Makes an SD look ordinary..
Would you mind posting some pics of it for us (well, for me..) and be kind enough to tell us (well, me again...) about it?

They are definitely a unique looking beast. Took the faired version out whilst my Baghira was getting serviced by a dealer once, was an interesting ride.
