Just been thinking lately after putting almost 15k miles on the bike in just over a year ( Now 24k total ) what do ya do when ya wear one of these bikes out ? I've heard from a guy that works at KTM dealership said he gets these bikes in with 100k miles on em. That would be fine with me but at that point are they worth rebuilding the engine from the bottom up ? And what kinda cost is expected for a complete engine overhaul ?

Anyone reach this point on the SD's yet ?

My buddy had 54000mi on his and it was still running strong and he rode the piss out of it (that is until some fuckstick on a GSX-R ran into the back of him on a twisty road...totaled the SD).

There was one owned by several members on here including myself that had 50,000 miles on and still ran perfectly.

I'm coming up to 90,000kms and the bike is running great with a lot of track days.My cam chains will need replacing so I most probably will refresh the motor at 100,000.I have done a complete parts inventory.New pistons, rings, chains, gaskets ,bearing and shells and the cost is $1300AU from Cheap Cycle Parts. My mechanic qoted $1000 for labour. If I just had the chains replaced and tappets check plus service it will still cost a fear bit so with a lot more track days coming up I think a refresh is a no brainer.Cheers

I have seen a few well cared for high mileage 4 stroke engines that made a fair bit more power / torque than a factory fresh one,

if its not burning oil, smoking or rattling dont worry about it

Another option is to buy a motor from a totaled bike.. I know it can be a crap shoot..but a low mile motor might be worth thinking about. Swap the motor in a long weekend and go. I see them on e-bay for 2K USD.
