Did the DMV mess up?

So I was pretty sure I bought a 2008 SDR. That's what the OO listed it as and everything.

I don't want to think I'm crazy but I'm pretty damn sure that's what the title/old registration said as well....

But when I got the new registration in my name I noticed it said 2009...

Think the DMV just put the wrong year on accident?

Same with my S.D..
First registered in '09...
So my registration shows
it as an '09...

Guys it depends on the date the bike was built is what i was told.

Jan - July is the current year.

Aug - Dec the next year.

FWIW, KTM never imported an '09 SDR. There are a couple with '10 bodywork floating around, if you search this site you can find some posts on them. Here's one. viewtopic.php?f=4&t=11252&p=128541&hilit=Scuderia#p128541 Scuderia West ended up with KTM' USA's promo bikes.

Bottom line, I think the DMV screwed up. That's OK, when I went to the DMV to try to get a personalized plate for my SD, the lady behind the counter asked me what a KTM was. So, not surprised.

Well it is possible to crossmatch the VIN number to see if it's an 08 or 09?

EDIT: Actually just looked at the OO's old registration. Looks like it says 2009 as well

EDIT2: Got a message from the Guy I bought it from, "I believe it's listed as a 2009 because it was built in the last part of the 2008 year" Which is basically what rocketchick was saying
