Facebook Group

I don't want to speak out of turn, but can I plug my new Facebook group here?

It's a closed group for Superduke owners and enthusiasts to share stories, experience, knowledge and easily share photos. A little like this forum, but for those of a more Facebooky disposition! Early days yet, but the more members we get, the better the group will be. The group will definitely have a chilled ethos and a positive nature.

It's Facebook.com/groups/SuperdukeCarnage/

Hope that's ok...

There are people that ride SuperDukes that still waste their time on Facespace. Twitter, and the like? Who knew?

You should try it some time, it's a revelation.

You spent an awful lot of time writing that! Could have been doing the ironing instead...

And I'm still not sure what you're trying to say.

An FB based group where you can chat or share photos etc in seconds, without having to log-in every time, or use a third party photo host seems like a massive step forward to me, all in a closed group where free speech is allowed without risk of snooping eyes.

Each to their own though...

I would've added an amusing photo there, but it'd have taken me ages.

Several similar groups exist already. One or more of which multiple members of this forum already frequent.

Nerd,

"Facespace is not worth the time/effort for liability reasons alone." This seems to be a very US [or dare I say even a Californian] way of looking at things. Thanks to the sue-anybody culture that exists over there I guess this is something you do have to take into account in your daily life. Not everyone has those same fears or views though.

"I don't want or need "middleware" as a surrogate for interaction with my fellow homo sapiens." But... isn't... superduke.net exactly that?

It's all merely an extension of an already complicated communication network for society. I do agree, however, that it's used completely out of context and people that write about inane crap which does not improve someones day or knowledge in any way is a complete waste of time and they can all go eat a bag of dicks.

I still haven't read anything here that either stands SD.net out as a better option than an FB group or explains in any way why a Facebook group should put anyone off...

To be honest, I'm not sure what some of your are actually talking about. Have you ever used Facebook?

If anyone is at the KTM track day on Wednesday maybe we can talk in person rather than on a forum.

I'm in no way defacing this forum, just find it awkward logging in every time I want to have a look and a nightmare posting photos. For this reason FB works better for me...

Each to their own...

Been reading this thread with (sort of very mild) interest.

Leeroy, I've nothing against Facebook groups, I'm a member of a few but they seem to me to be very different from forums. They are just long lists of pictures and comments that behave more like a magazine to interact with. Something to casually browse through and see pictures and a few discussions that they elicit. But nothing like the forums that have search facility, different sections and are a great source of information and knowledge. Facebook groups just don't offer this ability IMO. But I still join groups when I like the look of them. I also don't think you get to know the people on them in the same way. Maybe it's because they are more picture based rather than reading what people actually think - there is less ability to get your personality across.

I did go to your site with a view to join but the header put me off because I got the distinct impression that it's a 1290 site and I am finding that 1290 pictures/gossip/news/issues doesn't interest me - it's one of the main detractors of this site too now for me - I have to scan all the titles and copy for the 1290 text and then don't bother reading it. The last thing I want to do is log onto a Facebook site and see a long list of photos of the same bike over and over again - Shiny orange and white with some rim tape and a sticker kit with a few different aftermarket silencers. https://www.facebook.com/groups/1628688430720757/
