Hi Folks,

Is there a way to clean the headers of the SD990?
Mine have some corrosion on it. No rust, so i dont think sanding wil be the best way?

I know that the headers will become brown when they get hot. That's not the point.

Thanks for the advise!

Get them sand / shot blasted and they should come up like new.

Loads of places over here offer the service, I'm sure somebody near you will be able to do the job.

and dont do what one of my friend did and use steel wool (looked great until he used it once)... galvanic corrosion is never pretty

and no it was not me... engineers know about this stuff.

Thanks guys! I will try scotch-Brite. I just Google it, and there are different colors of it.
Witch one do you prefer?

I think that its important that I will "Sand" it around the pipe, not along with the pipe.
I hope you guys will understand what I mean.

i think it goes that gray is coarse, green med, and white being the finest. i get all and use all 3 as intended.
dont skimp on them though, they wear out pretty fast, use one till the grit is gone, then grab a fresh one. otherwise youll be there forever!

Another thing that works really well is a nylon wire brush. Discovered that last week and used it on some stainless fabrication.
Fits in a drill and beats the manual labour!

Most of the pickle stuff contains acid. HCL or hydrocloric acid which you get from the pool shop or builders yard (used to clean concrete) works fine. Much cheaper too.
Dilute 1 to 10 is fine.
Remember chemistry 101!
NEVER PUT WATER IN TO ACID!!!! Put the acid in to water!

Remove the header (and replace the carbon gasket while you are there) and wire buff the whole thing. Bit of a job but once its done its far easier to keep on top of it.
Finish it off with a bit of Autosol and a rag looped around once then pull back and forth. Works a treat.
