Hello,

So 1000 miles ago, I did a valve adjustment, messed up the setting on the TPS and later, with the invaluable help from the forum inmates I got it sorted. Since I had the engine half disassembled I did the water pump, and now the bike consumes a little coolant. I use Engine Ice.

In 1000 miles there is 1cm missing from the reservoir and another cm missing from the radiator. Yes, I did elevate the front wheel and purged the system of air.

I read extensively in the forum (I used the search feature! ) that coolant mixing with the oil means a knackered water pump seal, and white goey oil/coolant in the air box means balance shaft seal.

I also read that some bikes consume water (SDNerd running water-wetter and distilled water said his bikes always need topping up), also to replace the radiator cap that sometimes does not seal properly.

I did see a little oil inside the radiator when I opened to check the coolant level. I really would like to know if I damaged the water pump seal during installation without having to check if the filter has weavy filtering media. I just hope I don't have to do it again.

Questions:

1. Is a radiator cap a one size fits all radiator cap or do I need to get the KTM part RADIATOR CAP 990 DUKE 05 61035016000 $11.59

2. Should I do SEAL RING 12X20X5 B 0760122050 $7.29 and IGNITION COVER GASKET MATRI.CS 60030040100 $26.39 to try to eliminate possible culprits? Or is 1cm of evaporation in 1k miles normal?

I won't lay my bike on its side, but I'll likely follow

Inquiring minds want to know.

Thank for your time,

If the oil level is rising and you're consistently adding coolant, the water pump needs to be rebuilt. Keep riding and keep checking.
