Was a BMW owner, now a happy owner of a new KTM 1290 Super Duke. Reading page 20 of our manual it basically states that if you do not get your bike serviced at a KTM dealership "all warranty claims will be void". Now coming from BMW land I am used to this, but even BMW recognized that many owners enjoy working on their bikes and as long as it was documented, they allowed it and honoured the warranty. I have built hot rods for over 30 years and have owned and restored motorcycles also. I have always done my own maintenance on my bikes and would argue I take more care in doing so than a shop simple because it is mine. I did have an order in for a 2015 BMW S1000R which has a 3 year warranty. I did have to ask the KTM dealer what the warranty period was for the 1290 as I could not find it documented. They tell me it is only 1 year, after that you could buy an extended warranty. I do plan to take the bike to the dealer for the 1000KM service, but if I do my own work after that would KTM void my warranty?
I am located on the west coast of Canada.

I think the laws on this vary from region to region.
