Later SDR's are they 'proper' SDR's ?

Was looking at this y'day and thinking "Hmmmm...."

It's a fairly cheap price for a 'new' bike... and makes me wonder, is this R an R in the same context the other R's had stiff suspension and more power ?

I thought the 2012 R is the normal SD with suspension upgrade and different color scheme. Engine is as far as I know the normal SD engine...

No. It's the standard engine in those. Not sure about suspension.

Thanks guys,

Makes more sense now as the dealer also has a standard SD at the same price...

Just the same as the 07 R but with new paint and dual seat

I was really surprised when I found this out a while back. I asked my Stealer and he admitted it. I hope they point it out to every person who purchases one even if they have dropped the price. I guess they have too many standard LC8s on the shelf.

Does it matter? Look who is asking, the bike will be back in the showroom before it even realises it has left. One seat, dual seat pah, larger headers = more to polish. plus or minus 10bhp, who cares? What is it worth in trade for a Honda Melody? That is the question

Take it for what it is,,,,the last of the LC8 SD's,,,,cleaning out the part's bin's,,,,making room for the 1290's,,,,,it's still an LC8 SD for god's sake don't know about you but I still am enthralled with mine and will continue to be for some time to come,,,,,it's a keeper weather it be a standard or R,,,the last of a wicked design,,,,,,

As far as I know the 2012 R does have the upgraded suspension with longer shock so it's more like the 07 SDR with dual seat.

There is nothing wrong with the 07 SDR, its a great bike. Thing is they made a thing of the 08 onwards SDR having more grunt. If I was buying a SDR from that year onwards I would be expecting that grunt. You can take power up and its fine but to then take it down on the same model is not something I would expect. If the dealer points it out fine but if not to me that's not being honest with the customer.

What gets me is that the insurance would cost more being a R model?

This is how KTM Australia advertises the R

Surely KTM is not claiming 123 horse out of the standard SD.
I do not think any of us have tge difinitive answer as to what the SDR has up its sleeve .
As there are still many who call the new SD a 1290 version and noone has seen that in print.
The Aussie KTM site shows a very pretty bike indeed.

From what I have heard the only differance on the 2012 R was the dual seat.
To many complaining about the single seat being to hard.

My 2008 SDR is dynoed at 140hp.
New bike has no headers.

So you could also say the 07> SDs are not proper SDs because the 05/06 SDs are pokier and more of an animal

I don't understand what the difference is between normal SD and SDR suspension. As far as I can tell they both use the same WP fully adjustable forks and shock, and the fork springs are the same weight (.95kg/mm). If .95kg is too stiff, then you are a skinny bastard and probably should eat more pizza and drink more beer. Does the R type have low speed compression/rebound adjuster?
