I have been reading a lot of negative comments, law suits, and disappointed owners out there. Can we get owners that are having positive experiences with their new toy, 1290r.

Best bike I've ever owned or ridden. Engine stunning, handling out of the box superb, brakes phenomenal. It's even comfortable and reasonably economical.

Only done 70 miles.
But what a 70 miles!!
Easily as fast as my 990, and only using 6500rpm...!

Haters will be haters. Don't be swayed by other people's comments as some of them couldn't be further from the truth. Bike's grin factor is 10/10.
If you don't believe us just YouTube and find all the reviews. There is a new one from motorcycle.com only published couple of weeks ago

You are reading comments of the vocal few. Every single ride report I've seen has been positive...at the least. Ktm is not handling this very professionally, but they clearly have built a bike that is fairly unique, and engineered very well, even though some of the execution has been lacking.
Personally, I rode the 990 SD and was very disappointed, but don't see that happening with this one, and am betting it's purchase price it will meet expectations. Now, if my dealer could only tell me when mine is arriving....

Thank you KTM Beast 2014, I was thinking the same about starting a thread for the happy people. There are plenty of reasons to be cheerful, this bike has loads of p's- personality, panache, practicality, pure pleasure, pant staining power and so forth.
I have clocked up 1200kms on the 1290 now and its running sweeter than before. What gets me is how versatile it is. Absolutely smoked it through some twisties yesterday for a solid hour of boot scrapping thrills. Hopped on it just now in my sandals and shorts to pick up lunch.
I have an 08 SD990 and a Kwakka ZZR 1400 as well. Both are terrific bikes. The 1290 is better.
So make way for the Big Swinging Dick.

Nothing to do with suspension set up it's called cold tearing .

Wilks, thanks, I'll check the tyre pressure, just had a service so I assumed it would be correct for everyday riding. I do get similar tyre wear on my 990 and ZZR1400 though not as pronounced, different tyres.Could it also be caused by rough bitumen? Ambiant air temp is around 25 to 35 celsius where I live so perhaps this is a factor as well.
Havent even thought that much on my suspension as too busy enjoying the bike. I do see the rear shock reservoir is rubbing on the spring. Any suggestion KTM Guy?

Hard to get a tyre to optimum temp on the street fairly common really . Rough Bitumen is not going to help .

A couple of teething issues are just that, nothing that wont eventually be sorted. Dont give a rats arse, love every single ride on this bike, all dayer, commute, down the pub, fang through the hills, 3-4 gear power wheelies, sweet brakes, brown pants.
It really does it all for me and confortably.
Oh and it's got a little bit of power too.

Not done a lot of milage on the 1290... yet as i have a Uk trip very soon then off to Germany in June but am loving the 1290 so far, tons of power, grunt, brake are feckin awesome! very easy to ride.

There's really nothing like it. So easy and comfortable to ride, wheelies everywhere and the absolute hooligan machine of my dreams. Wouldn't trade it for any other bike on the market right now. My only real wish is for technical twisty cop free roads right outside my front door but we can't have it all can we!
