Lucky escape

An amazing escape. This morning rode quite hard on a ride-out on the Superduke. This afternoon tried to set off to go out again and as I put it into gear the chain just snapped. First time in 35 years of biking I had a chain snap. But as I was not travelling this was good. If this had happened on the go then the consequences could have been catastrophic. Back wheels lock up, people lose their legs, bad things happen. I think I have a guardian angel

Wow, your guardian angel was on the job. I’m glad you’re ok.

Glad to hear you made out ok.
It has happened to me twice on different bikes in my early riding career. One time the chain simply shot out the bottom without any real collateral damage. The other it locked the rear wheel, luckily while going in a straight line. Shit happens. I always use DID now for replacement and haven’t had an issue in the last 25 years.

Did you buy a lottery ticket today Bic?

There but for the grace of God..... (if you believe in that stuff)

I had a chain snap twice in over 35 years of biking, both times I had a pillion and both times the chain hit the near side shock and stayed put. So I may have a guardian angel as well.

Broke my chain a few months ago as well, on my KaToom 950 ADV.
A week after a week tour of Oregon.
77K on bike and it is still a fine ride.
Took it thru the back woods to the coast a week after the tour solo and was heading home at a good clip because of weather moving in.
Have to say chain was tired, but no tight spots.
Long up hill mountain pass clipping along at 80 mph, then power loss.
Cousin lived at base of mountain, so no brainer, made a U turn still coasting, pulled to side of road to access damage.
Lost the chain guard, could not pull chain thru for flare of links, so wrapped chain around buddy peg, and the long coast down hill began.
Had to push bike maybe 500 feet.
Got ride home in warm dry car and nice chat with Cousin Janet.
Luck was really on my side as well...back wood logging roads are not used often...by anyone.

Nice to see some familiar names still signing in..

Cheers !
