Making my 990 SD into an 990 SMRish..?

Hi Guys,
No, it is not about jumping off curbs and wanting to off road..
As many of you know I rode my 07 SD across the U.S. a few years doing about 10K miles over a month and a half. It was still a new to me motorbike, putting only 200 miles or so on it before the adventure. To prepare for the trip I had the seat raised and redone, and put on a kit to lower the foot pegs about an inch to make it easier for my knee replacements and the rest of my crap body happy. Also did this nifty custom luggage rack as you may recall

The package as a whole rocked, besides a dead battery in Houston, the SD did outstanding. Unfortunately the years have not been kind to my health, I took a 2k ride last summer from Tucson to Keystone CO (75 miles W of Denver), and what should been an easy run was excruciating on my body especially on my knees and feet. I will not go into details, but my first stop back in town was to a medical professional and at that time I never thought I would ride again let alone do a long trip.

So anyhow, I am back and as recovered as I can be and am thinking about hopping on a motorbike and seeing what I can do this summer. I think the leg position on an 990SMR/T or even the seemingly monstrous (to my 130 pound body weight) 1190 Adv would be better for my health than my current setup. I have the inseam to handle a higher motorbike and called on a few SMRs, but the expense of getting something different, redoing a touring setup, and dealing with a smaller tank started me thinking about what I can do to make my SD into what I need. I am still 100% in love with my SD, do not need more power, a windscreen or fairing.
So I have searched a bit without luck, figured you guys may be able to help.
I want to compare my 07 SD with an 10-11 990 SMR since for some reason the SMT according to cycle-ergo.com/ has more knee angle, not sure why.

Besides the foot pegs welded directly to the frame, are there any difference in the frames?
How about triples and tops? are they different to compensate for the longer suspension?
That leads me to my next question, the issue of course with just welding the pegs and changing the shift/back brake hardware the ground clearance would be dangerous. It is already bad enough with an extra inch. Could my current suspension be modded to make longer or are new shocks and spring in order if I was to raise the motorbike?
Anything else that I am overlooking? Going the other way and getting an unfamiliar SMR here in the States would cost me at least $3k more once I sell my SD, I would then have to get a tank for range, descent luggage w/a mounting system which is not to high for my leg to swing over, and the big one for me is changing the bodywork and exhaust of an SMR for the same reason. Remember crap knees and hips.

So that is what I am dealing with. I could only have one motorbike long term and I want it to be everything of course... Thoughts? Dumb or doable?
Thanks
