I'm trying to find some information about the superduke, as I hope to buy one soon. Just have a couple of questions first.
The model I want/need is the post 08, nicer (imo of course) dash, radial brakes and most importantly a half decently sized fuel tank.
I have riden a couple already, first a '11 sdr, and then a early sd '06 I think. Sdr is plain scary in town and traffic, stupidly fun on open roads and hurt my arse everywhere. It was standard though and I read the fueling is improved greatly by mods.
The early shape sd was just so much more civilised than the 'r' nicer suspension on road and a better throttle response than my falco.
But in my local dealer, they have a 2 seat superduke R. 2013 model. It has the orange frame but also pillion seat, the salesdude that was there (covering for the normal ktm dude, its a multi franchise dealership) didnt know too much about the spec. So whats the deal with these? Its obviously a parts bin special to run down the stock before the 1190 comes out, but is it a standard superduke with orange frame and R decals, or a full fat with pillion seat? Standard or R suspension? Engine..?
Thats my first question.
If/when I get one, I need luggage. I need pillion seat too. I have read that the ventura system doesnt fit with some aftermarket exhausts, which ones or is it standard cans only? Is there a way of carrying a lot of luggage on these? I do not do standard exhausts.
And the normal question, what should a buyer be checking for on a used superduke? Reckon there'll be any crazy deals on a new 990 when the 1190 is released?

Yep! My 04 is still stock nose bleed height. Can not flat foot both feet at the same time. Pants length 30 inch. Lot of riders lower the Adventure. I have other smaller dirt bikes for real dirt trails so I will lower mine too, I bet. It does haul luggage very well. My SD is really not meant to haul luggage but it can. It's just not the best tool in the shed to act like a pack mule. With that said I toured two up with camping gear all over the western states from Northern Canada to Yellowstone to LA to Lake Have-a-screw on a 1986 Ninja 600R 'cause that what I had. Bought it with 300 miles, sold it with 86,000 miles. If there is a will, there is a way. But I will have to tell you, a loaded SD is not as fun to ride as a Ready To Race SuperDuke.

Mine is the 06 model but I think this applies.
Two up on a Superduke is for emergencies only. Everything thats good about the bike solo is awful two up and it's not a good time for the pilion either. If you are doing any amount of two up work you need either another bike (I got a ZZR 1400) or a different bike in the first place. There is no way you will be happy with the SD or SDR as a two person bike.
I did one tour on mine and melted my trainewrs and pants in the process. I strapped a bag on the pillion seat and the exhaust gass burnt two holes right through it! With a little more care this is a workable solution and a lot of people swear by the kriega soft luggage.
As far as I know the recent bikes all have SDR engines if that helps.
Good luck, I hope you get what you need.
