Just got my first SD... An 08 990 with round Akropovic slip on system... Looking for direction on removing the DB Killers...
I have used the search function exhaustively (pun intended) and found nothing on the older bikes... Lots of posts on the 1290 though...
Anybody want to chime in?

From memory there is a single bolt that secures them. Remove this first.
The best way is to get a bent something, shove it in and hook the DB killer from behind and then just pull it out. From memory it can be a bit tricky as they are an interference fit but a bit of wiggling and waggling soon has the job done. Mole grips with some cloth to avoid scratching can help if a little rotation is needed.
I preferred the sound with them in so put mine back after riding round without for a while. The volume is a bit higher with them removed but the tone was nicer with them in.

I use a pot plant hanger, put small hook in the baffle end and give the other end a whack with a hammer, usually comes out first or second hit.
No WD40 and done cold.

I have yoshi carbon cans on my bike I ran it for over 3 years without db killers then one day decided to put the db's in just to see the difference and what I found is that the bike is heaps smoother on low throttle so my thought is that the engine runs better with a bit of back pressure?
Still sounds great
