The 1290...........what more can u say its just sex on wheels
After the missus dug her kneels in and is not willing to work the corner for me so I can buy one im now resorting to the next best thing, make my sdr look like one.

This has partly come about after last year a f@#kin stupid ass women pulled straight out of the supermarket and took me out one evening. The bike only sustained minimal damage that I never got around to tiding up........until now! So with our summer rapidly approaching its time to get down and dirty.

So far
Ive trimmed up the carbon front gaurd (had a nice crack in it) and painted
Relocated the ignition to the rear
Painted the tank
Removed the headlight and a german streetfighter units going on
Made a new mount for the speedo
Stripped and started on painting the rims
Side pods and tail section are prepped for spraying. Existing airbrushing is going to stay on the pods but going to have the "R" running through it.

Did this off my phone so will post some pics shortly

Im hoping this should only take around 6-8 weeks.
Also the concept bike and wat comes out the factory color wise are most likely going to be 2 different things especially those sexy rims so hoping it doesnt become just another red ducati

Been down and out with the flu this week but have been able to get the rims masked off so hoping to get the orange on tonight and possible cleared over the weekend. Will post some pics up soon
Have also decided to vinyl the racing text on the orange apose to airbrushing it so that if I want I can change it at a later date.

Cheers,
The headlight actually looks really good and suits the lines coming off the tank.

Stumpy Akra and painted wheels (still need clearcoat) The exhaust cans are aslo going to be mounted on a slight angle for something a little different.

Clearcoated the rims last night and look faaaarking awseome Have a coupla runs to sort out as there tricky buggers to get a good finish on and loaded the clear on so will get them cut out in the next day or 2 then slap them back on the bike

Next make the bracket for the headlight unit........

Gidday Teabaggin.I own a 990 sm(other KTMs thread-2008 SMR) .I'm a Napier boy.Been living in Aus for the last twenty odd years.I also am interested in painting the motor satin black, but apart from tearing the motor down and powder coating each part (which I may do since I'm over 100,000kms)is there a way of painting the complete motor with a hard durable finish? What is high degree paint?I would paint my BST carbon wheels to match my bike but would lose warranty as BST claimed. You are doing a great job. Can't wait to see it finished.Cheers

Hey, seems to be a few kiwis on here On both my ZX9 and Cbr900 streetfighters I painted them with Vht satin black engine enamel, it worked really well and came up looking awesome!
Gave it a real good clean and sand then just sprayed straight on (you can get a primer but didnt find you need it even on the bare ali and mag)

I have a 50hp nos kit sittin here I was going to put on the zx9 thats not going any where in a hurry.......thoughts?

The reason I was interested in your location was I could see some future demand for wheels like that on 1290 models.
