Free admission for the Texas Moto GP by being a free untrained corner marshal ? sounds like a bad idea to me,,,I wonder if the pro's know about this http://www.roadracingworld.com/news/art ... icle=50491

That looks like pretty much the same deal as at Laguna Seca. Many (most?) of the of the corner workers at those big events are volunteers, where training is provided. It ain't rocket science.

As I understand it (from someone who was a volunteer at Laguna), they prefer people that have previous marshaling experience if they can get them. I don't know how it is out your way, but pretty easy to get on with a trackday org or local club events to get some experience. Its a great way to get trackside viewing as close the racing as possible, short of being out there on a bike.

I'm guessing the pros know (or don't care as its not been an issue), and don't loose sleep over it, as its been a practice for some time.

Yeah it's not a science ,,,not to get killed doing it is another thing,,,we used to get all the freebies one could imagine with free hotels ,,food,,unlimited access,,,then they decided to pay the pro's,,,then they decided it cost to much,,believe it or not it takes a "brain" to throw flags and such,,when to throw em ,,,when to stop thing's,,,where to keep your eyes focused,,,if not nerd, you can get killed or maimed ,,in Florida I was there when a guy had both legs broken below the knee's,,,why, how,,, involving an untrained marshal ,,not a good idea just to save a few buck's,,,,,,,,,,,,

Couple of my friends worked the Indy GP this year and said most everyone out there had no experience whatsoever. It wouldn't be so bad if there were some sort of regular staff member in various locations and controlled the cornerworkers actions via radio. But there were some issues at Indy, mostly with blue flags I think that could have been avoided.
