Hey guys and in particular our friends IN Cali - I am very likely to be moving to California in the next couple of months and would like to take my SDR. Do I need to do anything to ready it for any state laws/restrictions? The bike is modified with all the usuals.

Thanks in advance.

Just been digging around the CA DMV and it seems motorcycles are exempt from smog checks so I should be ok

Yup no smog checks. Im just wondering if they will need to inspect the bike to get its registration changed here. Most likely they wont care about "offroad" mods like xhaust and wIll only check engine/vin but im not sure

There has to be 7500 miles on the odometer before you can register an out of state vehicle in the great state often referred to as Kalifornistan.

Thanks SDNerd - I am moving for work so it makes it even easier by the look of it.
Looking forward to some canyon riding. Just hope I don't make it onto one of those wipeout videos

What SDNerd is saying is to try and avoid riding with me

Yup, and hopefully you're used to the rear end sliding around since we have a fook ton of tar snakes on almost all the good roads now. (GMR, Angels Crest, big/little tujunga, 330 through Big Bear, Palomar) and these are all within a few hours of each other.

If you do want to head to Malibu stay off the snake there are much better...lesser ridden roads in that area like Stunt rd, Cold Canyon and Piuma as well.

Knock wood, the only time I've been hit by a car was on Piuma. But, c'est la vie. Lets be brutally honest - LA sucks. There are too many people in LA. And waaayy to many people with little or no insurance. The city and county are going broke, but won't admit it, so they just cut services, like road repair. The best roads n So Cal, congestion and maintenance wise, are in Ventura, Santa Barbara and San Diego counties.

So here is my tip to you Exitman. Carry a lot of uninsured motorist insurance while you are living in LA so when some illegal alien runs you over, at least you'll have coverage.
