Good afternoon all - Occasionally, my oil light flickers when coming to a stop. Wasn't riding hard or anything out of the ordinary when it happened last. Can anyone shed any light on this? I'm getting ready for a week's worth of riding in the GA/TN/NC mountains in a couple of weeks and don't know if I should be concerned. Thanks!

I had neglected to mention that it's a 2008 (not R).

Search water pump bearings/seals here and check your oil and filters for coolant contamination - does your rear cam chain rattle at cold start up?

I get a very short, like 3 second, rattle sound at start up, but that's it. Having not heard another start up in person, I don't know if that's normal, but assumed so. It's not alarming at all. As far as checking the oil for coolant contamination, what's the easiest way without draining? I figured I could stick something in the filler like a dipstick check? I rode it to work and back (32 miles) and it didn't flicker at all. Thanks.

Sounds like failed water pump seal/bearing symptoms - lay bike on side/angle and pull out oil filters - wavy paper filter element = coolant contamination.
