This was in 1950 after I chopped off the handlebars, fenders ( that is a model A spare tyre cover on the front fender. It later got put on the rear.My older sister on the back ,the last time she ever rode on my motorcycles.LOL Check the oil spots on the ground.Bought this bike front old Ed Kretz for twenty bucks out of his boneyard behind his shop in Monery Park Ca. in 49" Ed was the first winner of the Daytona 200 in 38" his # was 38 also. I raced this bike with his son Ed Ketz Jr. at the old Ascot speedway short track when it was in Lincoln Park L.A. before it was moved to Gardena,Ca. in 53' ( needless to say I couldnt win, all the other guys had british Iron at that time and they would just eat me up.Another story about that racetrack ; Before I was old enough to race I lived near the track at that time and when they werent racing during the week my friends and I who had bikes ( a mustang and another Indian ) we knew where the loose boards in the fence were so we used to sneak in and race around the track for practice then when I was 15 I lied and told them I was 16 so I could race. I was pretty good but I still could not win.It was so much fun though, until we were doing a TT and someone T boned me and broke my shoulder.but that is another story............Later

Nice work, most of us will still be pretty happy tonking around at that age.
So was $20 in 49 cheap for a bike? Probably add 3 zeros to that now.

Yes , they were left over war bikes .It still was pretty cheap. The poor kids Like me ( or my dad) could only buy old harleys and Indians , The rich kids bought the fancy new Brit bikes like AJS's Matchless .
, Triumphs BSA ,Norton's.etc.I used to lust after the AJS. Now I have one 54' 500cc thumper. At last. Watta load of c#$%^.LOL I will post a pic. of it . It is very classic though. Modern bikes yes. Like my 07' Gixxer 1000, Aprilia RS 250 GP bike, ktm sd ,oh yea.waydago.Also dirt bikes.

Wow I'm impressed musicycles. Still doin it at 74. I'm glad I saw your post. I was starting to wonder about my sanity as I've just decided to take up racing at 56.
I'll be racing in the Historic class on a Honda 350 twin(still have to build it) but your post has given me a good feeling for the future. Life is what you make it, and I havn't had enough fun or motorcycles yet.

Nice to see all the replys.Riding motorcycles with enthusiasm keeps you feeling young. Im 75 now and planning a track day "A" class at the end of this month with my GSXR 1000.Not many guys my age out there I would like to see more, so I dont have to race 20 yr olds. Age and treachery still win.Hope to keep riding for ,How many more years? LOL
