So after getting my new bike (which has intake, exhaust and PC3) and getting terrible gas mileage, I called the local dyno tuning shop to see what they charge. First off, the guy told me it was 395 bucks just to put the bike on the dyno without tuning. wow....Anyways, he also told me that the PC3 is obsolete and I need to upgrade to the PC5. He mentioned something about the PC3 shutting off because of the firmware or something...It all sounds fishy to me. Any thoughts?
Oh...As an added thought, maybe I could just get a PCV with the autotune kit? That would be cheaper (maybe not better but...) than the dyno tune.

Find another shop. Fishy? It smells like bullshit to me.
There's no need for you to buy another PowerCommander, and the PCIII won't shut off, shut down, or whatever crap this clown was telling you.
The Autotune doesn't work well if you don't have solid baseline mapping to begin with. That, and you'd have the get the 2-channel Autotune (AT-300), which - because it has two O2 sensors - is more expensive.
Find an honest dyno tuner, and do the deed.
TO ALL: To protect your investment, it's always a good idea that if your tuner doesn't give you a copy of the map (on disk or drive), or e-mail it to you - it's a good idea to download it off whatever black box you use, and archive it somewhere.

Cool. Thanks for the info. I'm gonna call around to different shops and just get a good tune though. From what I've heard, about 250-300 is a decent price for a tune.

Like SDNerd says there's nothing wrong with the PC3. I still manage my ECU and fueling with one of these and no dyno shop has a problem with it. I don't have a PC, (Macintosh person), so have never seen the need to change over to a TuneECU system.
Here in the UK, even the best dyno tuners are charging about £200-£250 for a dyno run and custom map. As everyone keeps on telling you it's money well spent both for power, torque, throttle response, engine care and fuel economy.

It might run on the lean side (?) with the airbox, but one approach may be to return the ECM to the OE (stock exhaust) map with TuneECU, and put on one of the freebie LeoVince maps on your PCIII ... Available here:

Something at least, until you get a proper tune.
