Had a great ride today, got home to find that the GoPro was aimed way too low. Still managed to pull together some footage.

very cool. i noticed theres a lot of blipping/adjustment with your throttle hand.
during a wheelie, i tend to have a rigid grip, so much so that when the front end comes down the action tends to wind on the throttle again, not a good thing.
i cant seem to relax though! i try wheelies all the time but cannot seem to gain any consistancy, sigh

On the SD there is so much engine braking that I do not use the back brake, so I just modulate the throttle to maintain it.

Most of the landings are softer than they look, apart from the missed gear change one .

Just keep playing with it and you will improve. I still have a long way to go, but it is very fun to learn.

Very cool! Don't know if I want to learn how to wheelie at the mo, I like my licence! Lol

Very nice mate!

Would you mind telling us what gear you at when pulling them wheelies?

On my 2007 SD I find it hard to lift the wheel on 2nd, even though I recently changed the rear for a 40T... It'll lift if there's some bump on the road or stuff like that but it still needs to be around 5000-6000 RPM, at low speed, with a real hard input on the throttle..

It'll lift easily on first gear but than I almost never get to shift to second as it jumps to neutral, which cause for a fricken' PaaPAAAWWW.... when the front slams to the asphalt.

How about for a future video I will do a comparison between my clutch up and my throttle up?

With the SDR bringing it up just going in to 2nd at low rpm is no probs off the throttle, just flick it and weeeeeeeeeeeeee
Gots to love that torque

Not sure, possible the standard sd is just less agressive down low. Mines not clucthing up either just off the power. If anything its harder to keep the bugger down then it is getting it up (the bike I mean hehehe)
I found even in 4th at the drags the front was getting very light causing speed whobbles

Great vid. Good technique. I clutch mine up too. Had the clutch apart and after 1000 road miles of utter abuse and at least 12 race starts in the heat of competition the plates were like new. Tiny bit of wear on a couple of steels but all spot on.

We need more of you on here. This is what the bikes all about. Its like the prostitute of the motorcycle world. Wheelie the life out it man.

I'll upload my wheelie from my cool down lap at the race yesterday and we can have a virtual wheelie off.

When I test rode a standard SD on a demo day I found it more wheelie happy than my SDR, it had more pull down low and was loving just lofting the front over bumps and crests.

I have 3 and a half weeks holiday starting on Friday so I will have plenty of time on the bike to get some filming in.
Hopefully I can get better at editing too and make the videos actually look half decent. Wish I had more than 1 camera so I could capture different angles without having to stop and move the GoPro.

Here is just a quick teaser to show the camera angles I used. Gonna take a bit to edit the wheelie tips video together and upload.
It will be up sometime this weekend. Got views of the throttle/clutch/dash and a side mounted video.

I must admit the clip I used in the teaser for the clutch angle was a crappy attempt

Yeah no worries mate, I found it interesting watching the clips myself today.

Biggest thing when I am currently doing wheelies is I never get it right up to balance point, I am always at least slightly chasing the front wheel. I will one day get to the stage of rocking balance point all day long, but that is still a while off yet.

To clutch up in 2nd, I can do it from either a steady speed or while accelerating. Any speed below about 90km/h or so it is the same action, of simultaneously pulling the clutch in and twisting the throttle. The clutch is only in for like half a second.

It will make more sense when you see the video. Going to start chopping it together tonight after dinner.

No worries mate, I am sorry the camera angle of the clutch was not too great but you get the idea.

If you would like to see anything else just let me know.

Have fun and just do what you are comfortable with.
