Hey - I live in the US. Michigan to be exact. I'm looking to get my 1290 out on the track but a buddy is telling me I need a "racing license" to get anything 1000+cc on the track. Never heard of this. Anyone else heard of this or know how I can go about getting this needed license? Thanks!

If you want to go on a track day ring the organisers or look at their website.
It most surely tells you what the requirements are like one piece leathers and so on.
Never trust a buddy with information like that! If he doesn't do trackdays himself it's probably hearsay and if he does he might do it under a different capacity like racing training or something.

If you want a "Racing License" look up WERA, AHRMA, AMA to name a few.
For WERA: (This is a little outdated as I am retired )
You have to attend their school and then you are on probation for 2 races.
You have to wear an orange vest for 2 races, not crash, and then you probationary status will be lifted.
You will have a Yellow Novice plate until you win or place in a series, then you will get a white expert plate.
Your gear will need to pass tech inspection as well as your bike ( Safety Wire )
Track days and individual race track rules will also differ.
I smell Bullshit.
This would cut the tracks track day attendance in half a good way to go bankrupt.
