Rottweiler / Tune ecu nightmare. Any help??

This is my experience so far, any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.
I bought the Rottweiler kit, sas plates and cable direct from the uk importer.
Installed it and followed the instructions to the letter.
First time I connected to the ecu I got a FI light come on.
I finished the install and fired it up. It was really rough.
I removed everything and put it back standard. Still the FI light.
Had to take it to a KTM dealer. They suspected that the throttle position sensor for the secondary butterflies was faulty. As I had touched it, they said my warranty was invalid. They got a third party electronics specialist in to check the TPS. He tested everything and said the throttle bodies were fine and the fault must be on the ecu.
A new ecu was ordered at a cost of £550. When the new one came it was noticed that the ecu on my 2013 SD was from a 2008 model (a 100 series). They fitted the new ecu( a 200 series) and the bike still occasionally moves from idle to about 4000 revs on its own.
They now say that I need a new set of throttle bodies at around £850!!
Does anyone have real expertise in this area? In thinking if the ecu was wrong, maybe I can claim KTM and if the new ecu hasn't solved it, do I need it at all?
The bill is mounting and I feel like I'm getting ripped off a bit, although it's bound to sting anyway.
Any help / advice would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers

Tim

Too far from me but maybe there's someone here closer - think you're being taken for a ride (don't know what the problem/solution is, blame the TB and then the ECU) over something most of us have suffered and (should be) easily fixed - do you have a TuneECU cable?

Dont know if this is too far from you but Kev at Projex(Cradley Heath) fitted and set up my Rotty Airbox. He's done a number of them so has some experience and has a good reputation.

And you didn't buy a Norton? replacement ECM, you should be entitled to the version that came with the bike - no?

Thanks for the replies.
The problem I'm having is that I'm trying to sell the bike. I've ordered a new bike and the dealer took my SD into the showroom to sell for me, noticed it was running a little lumpy, took it to KTM as it's under warranty and thats where the sordid little tale continues.
The whole thing sounds dodgy to me.
I've emailed KTM UK and asked them to explain why a 2008 ecu was fitted to my bike.

Does the FI light flash or just stay on?

Why do they say the TB needs to be replaced even though it's been checked out?

Did you buy the bike new or s/h?

Do you have the Rottweiler and SAS plates for sale...........................?

I can't actually remember if the light was flashing or not.
He said there is still a problem and it must be the throttle bodies
I bought it new 1st march 2013
Already sold it.

Unless you have absolute confidence in the dealer, I suggest get the bike back and sort it out yourself otherwise this could (unnecessarily) cost you - you need to know if the FI light is flashing or not for starters.

New throttle bodies my arse I'm be amazed if that was actually the problem. I have a spare set of throttle bodies from my 06 SD you can borrow to try out. 2nd flies are removed though so you will have to turn them off in your map with TuneECU. When you fire up TuneECU it can read the error codes stored in the ECU. See what it says as that will give people a better idea of what the problem could be. That would be the first thing I'd do. If you want to borrow the throttle bodies PM me.

I did that when the light first came on.
It was an error code for the secondary butterflies.
That's the only code that was up.

Probably only cleaning the BGC or fiddling with the TB connectors required then.

I'm 98% sure that you loaded the wrong map!
You own a 2013 Superduke R (got that ). That's model R is the "leftover bits edition"...
It doesn't come with the 'real' R engine.

Please tell us the name of the mapping you used... was it KM611EU0802031Map.hex?

Did you tell the mechanics that you changed the mapping with TuneECU?

Oh and don't buy the new throttle bodies.

Monkeydog

I told the mechanic that the ecu had been flashed with a different map, but i reloaded the original one as soon as I got the FI light

Monkeydog

Monkeydog

You loaded the wrong map!

Let them put the old ECU back. Hook it up to the KTM diagnostics software (or TuneECU) and let them reflash the original mapping of the bike.

This will fix all problems except for the FI light. That will only go away by reinstalling the SAS.

So, put the bike back to stock by removing the Rottweiler intake and SAS plates (and sell them tot No. 47 for a good price).

So,
Is it likely that the original ecu is actually not faulty?
I would get it back if I knew of someone who knew what they were doing to take it to.
Is the mass consensus that I get the original ecu put back on and ask him to flash the right map on then take it elsewhere?

Would the fact that it somehow had a 2008 ecu fitted make any difference to things?

Did you read my post?
Yes, ask them to put the old ECU back and let them flash the correct map. Judging from all what they have done I guess they would be capabele of flashing the wrong map so make sure they load the one for an R 2013...
Look in the parts fiche for the part number of the ECU for your bike. After that, look up the part number for an 08 ECU.
Let us know the result...

Right now, the bike is totally standard, it has a brand new 200 series ecu fitted. It runs and idles fine but occasionally the revs will rise up to around 4000 on their own.

Monkeydog

Monkeydog

2014-03-11 22:34:00 UTC

I'll do that in the morning.
the guy checked the coeds on the ecu's. The one that was fitted to my bike was a 100 series ecu, meant for a bike up to 2008, and the new one they sent was a 200 series that is the right one for a 2013 bike. or so he says

What a load of bollocks. I've fitted 2 new TPS on my bikes. You can set the voltage with either TuneECU or the KTM Diagnostic tool, it's in the workshop manual ffs. Who is this mechanic? Sounds mickey mouse to me and out to rip you off. As Bert says the original ECU would be fine so get them to put it back and load the correct map. Your bike is essentially a 2008 onwards standard SD, not a SDR.

If the revs rise unexpectedly and the correct map is fitted it is the TPS that has moved slightly.
It is clearly explained in the manual how to adjust the TPS, so far for KTM dealers knowledge. what an ass!!!
Man take your bike out of there pronto and don't pay a cent.
Let any of the members here who has some experience with this and tuneecu have a look, it probably takes 15 min to adjust and fix.

It makes me wonder somethimes with bike shops?
They are telling you that something cant be adjusted so you have to buy new throttle bodies?
So If there is no way to adjust something how the hell did they build it in the first place?

Well, what a total saga.
Ended up having to pay £1031.03 just to get my bike back exactly as it went in.
They wouldn't release, or even let me see my bike until I paid. They would not accept card payment, not even debit, only cash or bank transfer!!!!
I paid, collected and drove it to Kev at Www.projex-uk.co.uk
Top top bloke, dropped everything, sorted it out in 2 hours, did a Dyno run to prove it. Sorted, no fault whatsoever.
I've put the brand new ecu on eBay, it's unused, but is not returnable to KTM apparently.
I did get KTM UK customer services involved. A Bernie Tiller. He just fooked me off and backed the dealer.
It seems dealers are more important than customers.
If anyone if considering fitting a Rottweiler kit or having any Dyno work/set up done. Kev at Projex is your man, lots of Superduke experience, knows what he's doing and a top fella.
