Super Naked Sportbike class is suddenly getting crowded!

Comrades: Well it's not horrible but it does have that Erik Buell agricultural look about it - have a close look at the headlight.

What's so interesting about this bike is that the SX is the naked version of the RX. I'm not quite sure why KTM didn't take the same approach and market a RC8 version of the 1290R or preferably the glass to convert a 1290R to RC8 or RC8R.

Hmmm, not impressed, when that fell out of the ugly tree it hit every branch on the way down.

I suppose that some looking for a bike in the super naked bike class will buy based on their definition of beauty.

I'll bet though, that most buy based on performance. WTF would want a slow, heavy, ill handling super naked bike?

What we're missing on the Buell bike is info on its performance, I'll wait to make a call till I see it.

I'm really excited for Erik to be back in the fold but it seems they've built this bike with zero intention of any aftermarket parts.

I don't mind the looks too much but the exhaust is ugly, and look at this...was posted by someone from EBR on one of Buell Fourms when people were talking about modifying the exhaust on the RX.

"Guys,
You really need to be aware of the risks "hot-rodding" the EBR 1190RX motor. It is not like starting with an engine making 90HP per litre stock, where mods are easy. This engine comes with 185 crank HP using high CR, sophisticated mapping, and of course it has TC. To that end it is CRITICAL that a precision map be done for any exhaust modifications. For example, if you simply remove the secondary the following happens:

•Spark and fuel are dramatically different everywhere, especially mid-throttle, to the point of being very concerned with engine damage should a customer remove the secondary and continue to use the production calibration. It is kind of the perfect storm, close enough to run sort-of okay, but way too lean and over-advanced so there will be damage.

•Because fuel and spark are dramatically different, the traction control work on the back end of this calibration development to make it work properly is a calibration effort on its own.

We are not trying to discourage tuning, but want people to know that on this engine, it is NOT an easy bolt-on procedure, and the people tuning will need time, expertise and sophisticated tools. Knowing that owners want to take these to the track, EBR will try to get race ECM's out for a few race exhaust options, but we will not have them for many (as it takes weeks on the dyno to get everything right for each calibration), and it will take time. Obviously the first tunes we will do will be for race exhaust options that we will have in our catalog."

IMHO there is only one naked bike currently in production that looks good....and it looks drop dead gorgeous. Nothing else comes close.

If the Buell 1190RX I rode is an indication of its performance, they aren't going to sell. Not only hideous beyond belief, so is it's price.

Sure, you'll have some hard-head "buy 'murican" Buell fanbois that will sell their 5th or 6th child to have one; too stupid to use a condom, too stupid to know it's only fractionally domestically made ...

While the Buell tube-frame Lightning was an interesting exercise almost 20 years ago (but a terrible bike), I completely fail to understand the appeal. Ugly, slow, expensive, pathetically unreliable, and you're terminally stuck with that stupid-ass ZTL brake (Zero Torsional Load my ass).

Point is: Buell, once again, shows up late and brings nothing to the party.

When I first saw this bike, I forgot what EBR stood for (never been interested in Buells) and I thought it was an electric bike. It has that obese stepchild look that the ebikes seem to always have. Thanks for the review SDnerd, I can now resume my non-interest.
