Hey lads, still on the hunt for a set of cans for the duke, and not having much luck finding a good used set, however after searching the threads here i'm bidding in a set of titanium Akras on ebay. If i change the end cans and y piece will that also ditch the cat? And if i do manage to locate a set of cans will i have to go the tunepro route which will also mean changing the airbox? On a budget unfortunately so dont want to spend a fortune but would love the duke a nice bit louder and clean up the fuelling a bit. So far have repainted her proffesionally with new graphics, new rubber, carbon seat hump, crash bungs and carbon mudguard. A tasty set of cans and fuelling sorted and i'll be well happy
Cheers lads, Jay

Yes buying aftermarket exhaust ditches the cat.
You have a few options when changing exhausts.
Leave it as is (it may be on akra map anyway)
Get an akra map fitted at a dealer (basically a different engine map for the duke)
Buy a Tune ECU cable and do it yourself.
IMO buy a tune ecu cable and read the TUNE ECU thread its £35 for the cable and just download the correct map from internet.

Cheers superdan, think i'm just confusing myself tbh by reading too many threads. Do all my work to my bikes myself so i'll buy the tune ecu cable and start downloading! She's almost certainly on a standard map as the exhaust is original and has been on the bike from new by the looks of it. There's no problem changing maps again afterwards if something happens is there?

No problems, tune ecu is basically a free power commander, just download the relevant map depending what mod you do, air box etc.

I put a set of Akaprovic Ti cans and Y pipe on my 08 SD last month. There are things I need to do as time allows but the only thing I did so far was to inatall the cans and Y pipe. One thing that is of a concern to me as is, is the back firing. Sounds cool but I don't think it's doing my can packing any favors. I read on another site for KTM Adventures that....not sure if it was carb or FI, but there are some SAS ? plates on the side of the heads that you need to add and remove the stock plumbing that was there because of too much air with the new cans ??.....causing the back firing.....I got home work to do on all this myself. Rain season coming here soon. Good luck. The stock exhaust weighs 26 lbs, so don't hurt your self with that boat anchor !
I got a brand new set of Ti cans for $800USD off e-bay. The instructions said to repack exhaust after 40 hours use. I take it as track hours.

Hey Jayspillane..
Welcome dude...
Take your time making decisions
with what you want to accomplish
on your new steed...
I started off saying I wouldn't
want to change anything...
Then...
Changing most everything for
performance and smoothness....
It will more or less avalanche because
many mods go hand in hand....
Start out with reading the "must read"
threads..and stickies...
There's a lot to absorb...
It just gets better...
And..when in doubt...
The search function is your best friend..
Or..just post up and ask..
Have a thick skin and enjoy...
Awesome choice you made in your
S.D. Bro.!!!!!

Get new cans plus tuneecu cable and you can just turn the SAS off no more popping
Also you could just run the stock map if your only running the cans and standard air box.
If you cant afford the tuneecu cable you just need to put a marble in the hose that comes from the air box to the SAS valve and this will stop the pop on decel no need to disconnect the power to the valve either..

Cheers lads, the tune ecu cable is on the buy list now before i really get into big mods...for the moment the cans and ecu remap will have to do on the engine side of things! All the other mods in fairness were done out of neccesity after i had the small spill on it....i was thinking whats the point of putting stock bits back on?

Well lads finally got around to sorting the exhaust, we cut out the cat section completely along with all the baffles but kept the cans, we then fabricated a Y piece in 52mm (2 1/4") stainless and welded her back up. We put the top section back on and tacked it to act as an extra heat shield, cant really be seen unless your underneath it. Sound is awesome, definately wont be missed on it now http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KH8-fya8 ... playnext=1
