well done a few things to the SD over last couple of months so thought I might share the experience to maybe help anybody umming and arrrring bout doing stuff...

Started with a 08 SD std apart from the round akros and apparently on the 'correct' map from the dealer.

SUSPENSION

Firstly I set the suspension to road rather than race as it was stiff as fook with everything wound up to nearly full! then set the sag
found this helped but kept softening until reached a good feel but the rebound always seemed to bug me as the adjusters never really altered it enough ( had Ohlins before and one click could be felt) also it was so harsh when hitting bumps that it would make the bars shimmy so much ! Into the fast sweeping bends over 1 leoton I found it too wallwy and sft but too stiff in a straight line.
so off to KTech for a re-valve front and rear. They don't do a bolt on kit as they do for the RC8 but said they could help. after refitting be careful as they didn't set any adjusters back to previous settings and it was a rush to get fitted one night to take bike to BSD for mapping the next day early so that ride was err interesting! took it back and had them set up sag for me and a rough comp/rebound setting as wanted to see if they did owt different to me.

Found the bike very similar apart from the harshness has gone and it feels 'plusher' without the softness so a worthwhile upgrade in my eyes
Cost £360 for shock and forks rebuilt revalved and £40 for set up

ENGINE

Next was BSD for a remap! As most people are aware KTM mapping is a bit hit and miss and at 10% throttle opening its jerky, jumpy and hard bloody work. I think its designed for WOT only.

Mark from BSD asked me how I wanted it to feel and asked my expectations for power etc so I asked for smooth smooth smooth and if any power was lost then I didn't mind.
Well he took fuel out everywhere and ign out aswell. I had previously fitted a K&N the week before and that mad it feel a bit smoother so god knows what the fuel was like before!

He takes the bike out severel times after tweeking to see how it compares to the 100+ KTM's he's done.

|The bike before was a 120-125mile till the light came on and as a comparison when it rained on the way back from Ktech I was at 60-70 on the Mway and got 154 till the light cam on ! Now the initial throttle opening is much tamer and each few mm can be opended without jerking or upsetting the bike especially mid corner

119bhp at rear wheel

A must for all KTM's
Cost £250+vat but expect to have got most of that back by end of summer in reduced consumption (did 2200 in a week to Spain and Portugal the week after mapping)

STOMP GRIPS

Waste of time really cos they are well up the tank and made no diff to how I ride plus glue didn't work well even after cleaning area with IPA ! which removes ALL residue !
Cost £38 wasted

ACERBIS DUAL ROAD HAND GUARDS

These work well look good but not as big as most hand guards so didn't make the bike wallow but didn't offer huge protection from wind and rain

Cost £65

Mich Pilot Road 3

Awesome! nuff said

HEATED GRIPS

Ended up buying KTM power parts ones as same as the Oxford ones and have KTM on the switch oooohhhh and an orange button ! Made by Daytona they have 4 stages of heating work really well easy to fit as just clip straight on the SD accessory socket in the nose and took 10 mins start to finish

cost £65

I definitely need to find the time to have my injection sorted, I have a bit of a love/hate relationship with it, but Im still undecided whether to try and get some pipes for it or leave the standard ones on.

I love my stomp grips. Makes a big difference on track. Which since my lucky escape with the law is the only place I rag it now. Glue never seems to go off so you can remove them and reposition. Big help with breaking and corner grip of outside leg.

Hated grips in July

Did you leave second flies in or whip them out?
