TC = Tyre Care

I'm amazed at how well the 1290 will look after rear tyres with TC enabled.
90% of my riding is done with TC on and with around 7000km the rear is still got life in it.
With the 990 5000km and I would be starting to see canvas

Same, I have 7k on mine and although worn it has not squared off at all.
Probably only has about another 1000 km left in it but pretty happy to get that much out of it.

Not the same here unfortunately. In street mode and TC on most of the time but the tyre didn't make it more than 9 months. 5000 and its rubbish

I don't know about you folks but my 1290 is fitted with Dunlop SportSmarts. They seem to be harder than the Q3's and the Pirelli's that you find on other bikes so I'm not surprised at the good mileage. When these tyres wear out, or before, I'm going to throw on some softer compounds and then we'll see about tyre life, TC on or not!

My previous bike was an 02 Yamaha FZ1. About 130hp the way I had it set up. I ran many different tyres: Conti Motion, PR2, PR3, Q2, Q3, Roadsmart, Roadsmart 2, Pilot Power, Power Pure. Maybe a couple others I don't remember. Just shy of 50,000 miles in 4 years.

I think the most I ever got out of any tyre was about 4200 miles. I burned most in 2500 - 3500. A couple of Q2/Q3's in 2000 miles or less. With any trackday, serious twisties, or long distance at high speed (over 80mph for long stretches), any tyre would be wasted quickly. The only way to get them to last is mostly commuting, and staying below 80mph on the highway. Once in a 480 mile day I took a tyre from 2/3 good to showing cords by running over 120mph for about an hour, and 90- 100 most of the rest of the time. (Yes, I got a speeding ticket that day.)

Point is that all those tyres wore quickly when used hard.

I got the SDR last November, with 3815 miles on it. It now has 6200, still on the OEM Sportsmart tyre. It has at least another 1000 miles left in it. It's very mildly squared off, but not nearly like many others I've had.

I had not considered that the TC was dong very much. I don't often see the red light come on. But there's no denying that this tyre is going way beyond anything I've seen yet. Time will tell as I rotate through more tyres this year. Very interesting.

by the way, I always type the word tyre with an 'i'. T I R E. And then it always comes out tyre, T Y R E. What up with that? Can't it just leave my words alone, how I want to spell them? I looked for a setting but found no UK/Ausrtralia/Oz lingo on/off setting.
