Hi all,
So I've been lurking on this site for probably about a month now doing research. I had been thinking about adding a new bike to my garage thats a bit more sporty than my Harley. Currently I am between two bikes; the R1200RS and the KTM SuperDukeR.
I have not gotten a chance to ride either, but I'm convinced both are a hoot to ride. Both are pretty much in the same relative price range with the BMW being a grand or two more. That being said, the BMW has a few more gizmos in options but the KTM is still feature packed.
My problem with choosing is the fact that both seem to have issues. Obviously nothing is issue free(but I wish, I wish) unless I get something like the Yam FZR-09 which is essentially the same idea for half the price. But I don't want that.
Just to give a background, my previous bikes in order were a Monster 695, BMW S1000RR, Diavel and now the Harley FatBob. The Monster was gorgeous but boring to ride. The BMW was stupid fast on the street and a waste on me. The Diavel was leaning towards what I wanted but still too fast. Loved the HD because it felt like a real motorcycle.
The thing is, I really like corner carving on the backroad twisties and while Im used to scraping peg on my Harley all the time, its really a hog(pun intended). I also use my HD for commuting to work but its ultimately really not that comfortable over all the awful tarmac and I would feel more comfortable with something I could move around traffic with more ease.
Both dealerships are an equal 45 minute distance from me so there's not one I would be at sooner. I want to test ride both but it seems inventory is very low or non existent I should say on the BMW's. The KTM dealers has 2 in stock so I might also be able to work a better deal on them(dealer just called me yesterday to tell me hes taking $1,500 off their inventory).
I know this is long but I need to get some insight to anyone who also might have been cross-shopping this bike with anything else and why you ended up with this one. If you could do it over again would you still do this bike?
