so i have had my sd1290 a few months put 1800km and one track day, i have posted a few reports and my own thoughts after last weeks trackday so i wont go over it again but today i was offered what i paid for mine €14,300.00 so i am very much considering this as to me it is an opertunity to buy a new bike use it and sell for the same as what i paid.

i do not think that this happens to often and i should make hay while the sun shines.

the biggest problem i have is what i would buy next and of course for the same money, if not my balls will be off.

people are going crazy here to buy one of these and this will only last for long especialy when the minor faults are know about.

Are you bored of it already? Has it not met your expectations? I read your track report and apart from the coolant leak it sounded like you got on well for a first attempt. If something else has caught your eye though then fair enough.

Well, you can always sell a new bike for the price you paid when the demand is high and the bikes not available, ie. the Norton Commando Sport, the Ducati MH900e series etc.

But does this mean that you are not really attached to the bike? Like Klink asks, is there something else that you don't feel happy with?

Go for it if that's what your heart tells you. Why are you asking the forum?

My personal opinion is that history will show that the first launch of the 1290 is flawed, the build quality questionable and that the next generation bike will be better. Everyone, (except current owners), recognise it's overpriced, built to a budget and not the bike we all really wanted.

I think it is because like i said the bike is overpriced or underbuilt and also like i said apart from the engine it does not realy move the game on that much.

It is a good street bike and with some changes would be a good track bike but for me i do not want to spend more money on her.

Also i can see the same problems with the finish that other owners have stated and to be honest there is no excuse for that.

I was fortunate not to pay full price as mine was 14300 euros but i feel this bike should cost no more than 13000

And at 41 im also having a mid life wobble hahahaha

Its funny as i have had four other ktms, sds, rc8, smr and all had faults but they did not cost as much as this one.

Just can not get over how people here are desperate to get one, i will have another ride this sunday and make my mind up, not been on her nearly two weeks.

As for asking the forum, it is always good to hear other views, and you could not get bored of a bike with this engine.

To close out this post, i think its the feeling of paying too much that bothers me and that coupled with getting what i paid i for her makes things a bit murkey. Thing is i have no idea what i would buy

Feeling attached to the bike, it is true i do not feel as attached as i did with the sd or even the rc8 , do not know why and i have to say for me i was expecting more in other areas such as the front suspension, damper, finishing in general, on mine the finish on the wheels is lumpy like they did not have them finshed correctly but that is a minor issue but when you add them all up it all counts.

This is also the first time i have bought a new model and i can say i shall not repeat.

Off for a beer and to listen to some meloncolic music for sad bastards hahahaahahaah oh ktm what have you done, i feel in six months the market will drop for this model but just my opinion, also deffinatly do not want to put a downer on anyones new 1290 as each to thier own and the important part is to enjoy any bike

Sell it then dude. If you don't think you got value for money and I can see why you'd say that, take the dosh and go and try something else for a while. Come back to the 1290 in 18 months time when prices will have dropped and the bugs will hopefully have been ironed out.

Comrade: If your heart ain't in it then just sell it. You should always follow what your heart is telling you then you can't go wrong. Where most people go wrong is not being able to identify what their heart is saying hence the comments about post purchase justification Etc. Personally, I try to not get too caught up in the money/value issue Etc because I've had too many bikes I should have purchased and never did because I was sensible. Last weekend I admired a little 450 Ducati that I should have brought when I was 17 ...

I guess you should sell the bike. You can always buy another later on. Everyone is at a different point in their biking evolution, so while I am impatiently waiting for my 1290 to hit the dealer, you are selling yours! I have already gone through my sport bike phase. Last road bike was a 990 SMR which I liked. For me, the 1290 is similar to the 990 but with a bit more horsepower.

Do you have another bike in mind to replace the 1290?

At this point the 1290 is the only road bike that interests me.
