What will be your first power parts purchase?

Interested in what new 1290 Superduke owners or potential owners are going to do first to their new bike?

Also, I have been reading a lot of reviews and posting and there are some saying that you need to go up two teeth in the rear. Is that something owners are considering? Wouldn't that make the bike even more torque and difficult to ride?

It has to be the yolks.

No-one knows what specification they are, only that they are Orange and forged from the blood of giants.

They also come with a packet of magic beans.

Serious answer:

I'll ride on track and see what I think it could do with.
I suspect it may be a bit of reworking in the forks, but I certainly won't look to the powerparts for that: Steve J will do them at a very good price.

As far as the rear sprocket is concerned, 2 teeth more will give you some extra thrust, wether it's needed on a bike with 160BHP is open for debate.

One nice thing with the new bike is that it's geared for 180MPH+, so if you do decide to lower the gearing, you'll still be able to hit long straights like Almeria and Parc Algar without hitting the limiter in 6th way before the braking zone.

You've got TC etc on the 1290, it's not likely to be too much.

Maybe some heated grips. Probably a tail bag if nothing I already have works. Maybe an exhaust if the stocker does not sound good enough. I doubt I will change the suspension unless it is way off. But yeah, with so much hp and torque stock I will not need more power. I did a lot of air box and fuel injection mods on my 990 SMR because the throttle response and power were good but not great stock. Doubt that will be an issue with the 1290 from what I have read. Probably will mod the plate holder for something that looks nicer. That's it.

No power parts for me yet, @ 1000kms straight to the Dyno for bases run mainly looking at the A/F on Australian fuels, I will be looking at trying to install my 990 SMT PCV + my O2 controllers to the 1290 with a custom Dyno map to get the best A/F on our fuels.

Ordered the shorty plate holder yesterday. @A$180 is actually cheaper than available in the UK
GP3 from Austin is apparently in the mail.
Apart from a tank pad probably cant see much else on the horizon ATM.

From the powerparts catalogue I’ve had (or am waiting for) the following;

Akrapovic slip-on silencer
License plate holder short
Radial RoadLok
Pillion seat cover
Heated grips
Carbon ignition lock cover (not arrived)
Steering damper kit (not arrived)
Frame crash pads (not arrived)

These being mainly cosmetic parts the “performance” parts can start after I’ve had it on the dyno.

I've gone a bit over the top...

Top Yokes
Carbon Fender
Carbon Hugger
Carbon Engine Covers
Carbon Tank Cover
Pillion Seat Cover
Tail Tidy
Lever Protectors
Full Akrapovic Evo Ti System
Racing Decals
Ergo Seat
Crash Pads

None of which has arrived yet, but I'm not registering the bike for another couple of weeks anyway...

My wheels are away being sprayed at the minute and I have a set of AR levers and KTM racing fuel filler, resevoir caps and tube stops that will hopefully fit as well!!

Anyone have any feedback on the standard tyres?? My 2013 SDR was fitted with wooden ones straight from the factory...

Leeroy mate.

Can I bags first refusal on your bike when you are trading up in 2015 for the mark 2 model, (which will be better than this one)?

I could put a deposit down now.

I am just down the road from you near Horley.

It's good to hear that you're not registering it yet. Maybe you don't even need to, I don't mind that much if it has zero miles on the clock when you sell. (but it would be nice if you had done the first big service).

If you do ride it could you please not wheelie it too much or ride it in the rain. And can you keep all the OE equipment that you're swapping out. (MCN buyers guide says that you should always ask for these bits).

Thanks for considering my offer.

Regards,

Bic

PS. Have you found a buyer for your SDR yet?

Ha!!

Yes, I'm happy with that deal.

Can you send a deposit of say, £19,000 to my paypal account and I'll promise to be gentle with your bike for the year that I'll have it...

The 2013 is still for sale... I've had interest but it seems everyone wants something for free, like a £2500 Evo system!!

Cheers

Take that system off the bike dude and sell seperately! It's the ONLY way you'll get any of it value back I'm afraid.
