What years for metal heel guards?

Hey there

Can someone please tell me what year they went from metal to plastic heel guards.. picked up my new bike and am less than impressed with the guards.. everything else is TITS...

05-06 metal, 07> plastic or carbon for the R models. You can buy metal heel plates from somewhere.
