But all of the 1290 bashing doesn't reflect well on the previous generation owners.

The moderators and administrators of this forum own 990s.

After all, we've just been typified by one of the moderators as...well just read his post on "Where have all of the 1290 owners gone?"

Me? I have had both the first generation 990 and now have the 1290 and wouldn't want to see it updated. It's nice to look up the 990, brings back good memories.
KTM's road roots are not that deep so I like the link. It never got changed with the Gen II SD, so why do it now?
As for the 990/1290 slanging match, all in good fun.
We moderators rarely step in but I have seen no one that requires a stern talking too.

Hmmm I own a 1290 and it wouldn't have the attitude in its design and build if it wasn't for the generational changes that came from the 990. The way the 990 was bettered and made to go faster by owners led to better bikes and as a bonus along came this brilliant website, probably out of necessity as a way of sharing fixes/mods/and experiences.
990s been around for a long time and there are lots of 990 owners on here…..
Ive read almost all the 990 tech posts and it quickly becomes obvious the depth of knowledge available, and all for free because like minded people wanted to share.

It seems like its cars vs bikes, taxis vs cars, trucks vs cars, harleys vs japansese brands, 4IL vs Vtwin..oh and cyclists vs everyone.
I'm not sure why people categorise everyone onto groups so much ?.
I'd go as far as saying I see all bikes in an equal light... well except those pesky ring-a-ding-ding 50cc scooters
For me the 1290 is lovely, But I love the 990 too. While it is tacitly suggested that you either like one of the other, as far as I know there's no monogamy law to prevent us from loving both ?.

My post on the other thread isn't meant to offend 1290 owners at all. I do have an opinion about a lot of the type of riders I see now but as I made great effort to point out this is generally across all types of bike types and manufacturers and fashion victims, nothing to do with 1290s.
I take it you're into rim-tape?

For some reason I'm only seeing SUPERDUKE.NET and NOT a displacement on the initial page? And splitting hairs why just the standard Super Duke and not an "R" model or how about the Super Duke GT and why is only the orange model and how about a black or white model or that stars and stripes 1290 and....... I think there already are one or two 1290 Super Duke specific websites should we head over there and ask why no 990 SD's......

if it was and Entomology Interest Group maybe, but it's a bike forum and the old style seems to reflect the old-style values. The new design cue's aim at something else which to me, at least, is somewhat confused. There's nothing wrong with tradition especially when the tradition did no harm.

I know the wording has 990 mentioned....but that mask looks 950 ish to me...
Last October I had the pleasure of riding the new KTM Adventure 1190 or what ever the heck they are for 5 day in the Cali mountain passes around Yosemite.
I have a KTM 950 2004 Adventure and was worried about getting spoiled with the new bike and all it's wizz bangs.
Long and short of it, nice bike and hell ya I would take it if someone gave it to me.
Am I going to buy a new one and replace my 950....No...and some how I was glad to get back on my 950.
