ABBA stand review

Maybe I'm lagging behind here and this is old news but I've just done some maintenance work on the SD using my new ABBA stand and can't believe the difference it makes over my old rear paddock stand.

Best bit of kit I've come across for years. Much easier to put the bike onto with one person - no balancing the bike whilst trying to align bobbins, no worrying the bike might fall off as you lift it up. The bike is lifted higher up so it's easier to work on the underneath/ battery etc.

But the best bit is that both wheels can now be accessed, turned or removed easily. Totally brilliant! I can change over rear shocks now without a problem.

Plus, it stores away smaller than a conventional paddock stand.

Highly recommended.

You start with the bike on the side stand, place the left hand half of the stand into the swingarm pivot and then slide on the other half of the stand from the right side. When you stand the bike up and pull the bike up into position you can just flip the side stand up out of the way.

Can you remove the front wheel with this? It looks like it would pivot forward if the front wheel was out?

Yep, I did it this morning. It does pivot forward so I just used a car jack under the engine block and lifted the front until the back wheel was on the ground. Simple. Certainly couldn't do that with a rear paddock stand so it's the first time I could remove the front wheel and really have a good look at those brakes to see if they need cleaning of road muck and stuff, (the seizing scare fiasco).

Welcome to the ABBA party mate, been using it for years with great joy! Not sprung for the other accessories....but i know TheJoker has the tyre changing kit and wheel balancer. Nice stuff.

As you have noted, a jack is good enough to loft the front and cheaper than ABBAs alternative....but I've never tried it, I use a normal front stand. It's a bit shit though.

I've got an Abba stand and never really understand what all the fuss is about when people start raving about them.

TBH if I can get away with a paddock stand I dont use mine and if I have to use it I make damn sure the bike is ratchet strapped to a celing joist also. In my view it lifts the rear of the bike too high and I have had several instances of the whole lot trying to fall over sideways.

If I am swapping a shock or linkage it is a necessary evil but otherwise I can be bothered with all that screwing (must be my age) and yet I have seen people dithering about with them on trackdays just to put tyre warmers on

In answer to fules question. Yes you can remove the front wheel but you have to buy another gizmo from ABBA or block of wood and trolly jack under the downpipes. Make sure you have the bike suspended as this is where it really gets unstable
