Cheers KTM Guy, thought it might be stainless but rear header pipe started to turn a bit odd (obviously chain lube) so was not entirely sure. Time to pull the system out a bit of wet and dry, wire wheel and buff to nice shine. Anyone given that a crack?

Ok here they are, bit of a job cleaning them but you can see what I mean by the rear header pipe. Should at least be easier to clean now

Nice job Scamb66!

How long did that take? And did you do it all by hand or with a bit of power tool help?

Don't forget to clean the headers after polishing and use some heat resistant transparent spray.

Going to give mine a clean, do the gasket and re-pack cans soon.

Does anyone think Autosol will be up to the job? Don't have anything else at the moment.

hi all
mine used to get like that on my old sm 950 .
so out came the 400 wet and dry . then the 600 then the 1000.
then after the worst had now all gone used the autoglym metal polish .
came up as shiny as scamb66 nice job.
the pipe out the back cylinder soon got back to a bronze blue colour .
still looked shiny though .

when i polished mine up i just used autosol . started with a medium wire wool and lots of autosol and hard work - tho not putting to much pressure on - the wire wool gets rid of the tarnishing . i just got progressively finer on the wire wool then to a fine scotchbrite pad with autosol and finally finished off with normal rags . took some bl##dy time but came up well . only took a minimum of "maintenance" polishing to keep on top of it . looked spot on with some heat through the pipe to give it a nice bronze finish .
hope this helps
