So...I live in South Florida, is mid-April and is already 87F/30C.
I've being thinking about wraping my exhaust with heat tape before summer (100F/40C).
Anyone tried that?
I am trying to block some of the heat from the engine into my legs in traffic.
Any issues that I should know?
Better brands?
I have a white SD but I am thinking about wrap the pipe black (does not show dirt).
I've seen a couple vids on Youtube about and looks like it is straight foward business....
Thanks in advance
Weber

There are various forum members who have tried this over time with differing results. In the UK the winter salt and crud from the wet gets into the wrapping and rots the pipes and they start looking bad after only a few months of use. Should be OK in a warm climate though. Some people say that it can add a few BHP but I've not seen any dyno runs to prove this. Best looking jobs are done with the 1 inch width wrap as the 2 inch stuff looks good until you get to the 'Y' pieces of the exhaust and then it's really hard to find a way to wrap then to look neat. (from personal experience). If you have a go post some pics!

just get ceramic coating. bit more expensive, but the results are 1000x better.

I don't really care about better exhaust flow, I just want less heat on my legs.
Will the ceramic coating do the same result as wraping for me?

ceramic coating will do a better job of it and your pipes and wrappings wont look like shit after one riding season

ceramic is best, and your riding buddies will appreciate it.... i wrapped the exhaust pipe on my snowmobile a couple of years back, all my riding buds about got sick from the smell it left while burning in.

Your forgeting how good the steam looks after you ride in the wet. Also what silencers are you running? Mr z34 says ' the carbon fiber silencers will yellow with excess heat as heat wrap keeps heat in and the silencers suffer from the heat

I have round Akras.
No snow or salt here...I very very rarely get caught up in the rain.
Still debating about coating X wraping

i wrapped mine with black exhaust wrap and IMO its not really worth it.

its a pain in the arse to get it wrapped,
its itchy as fook!
once its on the bike shakes it off after a few runs out
and close up it looks shit lol

i ended up sending them off to be painted in high temp paint and so far so good.

Grendel believes you are supposed to seal the wrap after to keep it on and from flaking.

I cannot attest to the effectiveness of the ceramic coating's ability to shield you from heat but it sure does look purdy. See.

Will hopefully have them mounted up this weekend.
