Exporting bike from the UK to the US

It's been a while so Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all!

Bikes have not featured in my life for a few months; In November I found out we're transferring to India (Mumbai) within the next 3 or 4 weeks and just 4 days ago, we had a new addition to the family (Ellie). I even thought of selling the bike but after firing her up the other day, there is NO way I could sell her

While we're in India, we're going to move our gear back to the States including the bike if I can. Does anyone know of a dealer / specialist within the UK who could make a Super Duke R ready for the US? I'm not sure of all the modifications required - hoping I don't need to refit my standard airbox and exhaust.

Cheers

Why not to India, some areas are a bit crowded but some good bike roads there.

Don't know about the US and I guess it depends on the state. In my opinion it is going to be a drama as the regulations for pollution are much higher in the states. Just look at can in the arse subject. I guess you will not only have to return to stock but also fit the US mandatory specs unless you can do a one off special import.

I'm sure some US members can clarify this.

There are federal standards the vehicle has to meet- safety, emissions and other. I started looking into it for a "buy the bike in south america and ride it back" adventure, but it was such a pita that I gave up (and I'm a lawyer!). You might start here: http://www.nhtsa.gov/cars/rules/import/

Beyond that, California has additional requirements but I'm not sure what they are. Not aware of other states that have additional requirements - but there may be (e.g. states are starting to adopt noise restrictions). State requirements probably won't affect importing the bike, but probably hit you when you go to register/ride.

Not sure if there are specialists who can help you. When I was considering it, I found lots of websites with advice and suggestions but no real solutions. Hope this helps some.
