Fitting Brake and Clutch Levers

Equiptment:

Allen Key set
Pliers
10mm Socket
8mm Socket
White grease
A couple of minutes

Right first of is the Brake lever which is the easiest (there both very easy though!)

Firstly place an allen key in the top bolt on the old lever and then undo the nut from underneath (Item B) next use the allen key to undo the bolt that goes through the old lever and then pull it up and out. (Item A)

Now your lever will be removed and when they are placed next to each other they will look like this...

Image

You need to remove Item C (the brake presser thing) from the old lever to reuse on the new one. I did this by winding the adjuster all the way in so that it stuck out as far as possible then just pulled it out with some pliers.

Once this part is out slot it into the new lever from above like this...

Image

Once this is done just place the new lever into position ensuring that the hole lines up and that part c is pushing on the cylinder and place the bolt back in the hole like this...

Image

(I used a little white grease on the bolt just to give it a helping hand)

Then screw the bolt (part A) back in using the allen key and then the nut on the bottom (Part B) whilst holding the bolt still with the allen key.

Finished. One New brake lever!!

The clutch is almost as easy

Again use the allen key to hold the bolt (part A) while you undo the nut (part B) underneath on the clutch side (its smaller this side 8mm socket rather than 10mm on the brake)

Once the lever is off they will look like this side by side...

Image

You need to remove part c which is like a button for the clutch sensor you removing this by adjusting the adjuster or the old lever until it falls out of the bottom. Once it falls out place it from above on the new lever like this...

Image

Now you need to push the bushing out of the old lever (Item D) (i missed this when i first put it together and it made the clutch stick and not work properly) Once this is removed apply a little grease and place it in the new lever like so...

Image

Now locate the lever in place so that the pusher sits in the sensor button hole (Part C)

Image

and line up part D with the hole on the cylinder and push the bolt (Part A) down and in the hole and then hold the bolt with allen key while doing up the nut (part B).

Now just adjust the reach (and length if you have that ability) and your done!

Nice write up, have been strongly considering Pazzo levers, had them on other bikes and really liked them, plus you can get black with orange adjusters!

Thanks for the write up. The question I have is on removing that barrel "presser" on the brake lever. Did you just pull it straight out with the pliers, or were you able to slide it up or down. Tried as I might, I wasn't able to get it to stick out far enough to slide it out, and I wasn't sure whether it'd be safe to pull it out.

I like you tried for a fair while to slide it out and it's not possible.

I just pulled it out with pliers as it's only just larger than where you get it out from mine came out fine no damage.

To get that c-thing out of my brake lever, I just took out the bushing , and then the two pieces of the lever come apart, and you can get the c-part out.

Thanks for the write up. I installed some ASV levers very quickly today because of this.

Cheers!!

Were you able to get the brake lever's rubber thingy back in the groove on the pushpin? I didn't. However it seems to press the right thing as the brakes go on at the parking lot. Perhaps there's a small need to be carefully at the first use.

EDIT: Nah, they work fine.

Great write up..unfortunately..I read it after I installed my levers..the only thing I didn't do was the grease..install went smooth otherwise.

No matter what I do, I can't take the "C" part of the original lever... I didn't want to remove the bushing but I don't think I have a choice... The adjuster won't go out enough to separate the two aluminium parts. What year is your SD? US model or EU?

Thanks!

Filipe

Edit: Got it out without removing the bushing!

I couldn't get part C out of the brake lever. Need another 2-3mm of play and it'd slide right out. I checked another brake lever I had lying around and it's the same story. Moving the adjuster doesn't help at all, just varies where it rests.

How the hell do you get it out!?

Hi Fellas, hoping I can get some advice.
I've installed new brake and clutch levers and having trouble with the clutch.
The clutch is coming all the way back to the grip to disengage (lever adjuster doesn't make enough difference) and it seems to be caused by the clutch barrel and pushrod pin not being long enough!
Is it possible to buy a longer pin? or do you know of any other way to adjust it?
Cheers!

Hi Aphex, would I need to seeing as I simply swapped the levers out? If it would help with the lever adjustment I'll give it a go!

It only has the adjustable pin on the brake lever not on the clutch (the one I'm having a problem with).
I wish it did, I'd have this sorted in no time.
