Oil Advice

This sounds like a stupid question (so it probably is!)

I did a quick search on the topic but from what I read opinion was divided.

Thing is that the manual is a bit ambiguous on the point. It tells me to warm up the engine to four bars, be on a level surface and then check the sight tube.

It does not say if the engine should be running or not when you check. I’m just getting mine sorted after winter for a four day road thrash so had a quick look today.

It’s not a big deal as I will call the dealer tomorrow anyway but I just wondered if the forum ever reached a consensus on the issue. Mine is just above min running and below when switched off so I guess I need a drop in there either way.

I will post the dealer advice when I get it.

warm up take it for a ride 2-3 miles wait 20seconds for oil to settle keep engine running then check seems the only way to get a decent reading.

You are supposed to turn off the engine and wait 30 seconds before checking the oil level.

You can always ring KTM UK if you are not sure.

Just to let anybody interested know the advice from KTM was as follows;

Warm it up, go for a ride / whatever
Get to a flat surface
Switch engine off
Wait 30 seconds
With bike upright check the sight tube.

Job done, now I just need to add a splash of oil and I'm all ready for my 4 day thrash round the best roads in Wales in a weeks time Should be able to give a report on the new Rosso Corsa tyres after that as I'm going to be doing my best to wear down the edges!!
