Help please

replaced the rear spring on my SD rear wp shock (still a standard 185 spring) as it was a bit tatty

But cannot find anything anywhere to advise how far I should tighten the big nut down onto the spring

I tried it with about 15mm thread showing and it seamed soggy, so clamped it down to about half way down the thread still dont feel right.

Anyone advise the stock setting so I can try that to start with please

Many thanks

Easiste way is to just measure Static sag on the rear!

Aim for 5-10mm for track use and bewtten 8-15mm for road use.

When you say standard spring do you have a 170/185 or 180/185? (the first number is the spring rate, the second number is the spring length!)

I find 20mm of thread showing above the spring adjuster will get you in the ball park

If you still got the original rate, you probably have to turn it up a fair bit depending on your weight.
The original spring is rated for a 85 kg rider max. I can confirm this is correct as I'm 82 kg and it is almost all the way turned up. The bike doesn't handle sharp as an SD should if it is not right.

Just to avoid confusion as my reply was late and after a long shift!
By turn up spring I mean turned up to the max as in max compression as in max amount of thread above the adjuster.
Bigash is not far of with 20mm above the adjuster nut.
