Removal of the secondary fly shafts. Help

May of us are considering fitting different velocity stacks to our SDs, whether holding out for MrZ32 dual stacks or trialling the RC8 stacks, (mine arrived today from Jim Aim)

I currently have the Motohooligan secondaries fitted with the shaft active but following the ongoing story it seems to me that total removal of the secondaries brings better benefits and if I'm to fit the RC8 stacks and get a new map done at a dyno place then I'd be better off getting rid of the shafts all together before I do this.

Is there a thread that clearly talks through the removal of the secondary shaft and motor and explains how to stop the warning light? I don't have a Tune ECU or a PC laptop do to the light thing that way, is there another?

here is the how to i used: http://www.ktmsmt.com/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=3140
Was done by kevxtx, helped me a lot!
I think you could get rid of the fi light by soldering in a resistor instead of the 2nd fly motor. Just like with sas, but I am not shure about this, and have no idea what type of resistor you should use.

Thanks mate, just what I was after!

Anyone else know if the resistor idea will work - it looks like a similar connector from the secondary shaft motor as the one that was on the SAS one so is it a case of doing the same resistor mod to this connector and then plugging it back into the loom? I can't stand the idea of riding around with a warning light permanently on. It would drive me nuts.

I just did the secondary fly removal this past weekend and did the basic breather mod. I followed http://www.ktmsmt.com/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=3140 . Easy! This weekend my local dealer is going to plug into the ECU and overide the FI code. I can't stand the blinking light. I still haven't ridden my bike since the modifications, but look forward to it. I have RC8 stacks comming this weeked also. Next is cans and a remap. Cmon tax money!

Yeah he does, but a bit of a mess around to find out lifting tanks and that, still dreaming about making my SD8 (superduke RC8) I would get rid of ram air ducts for better asthetics

unfortunately due to the nature of the 2ndry fliy TPS (it is a variable resister), just putting in a resister will not work as the bike checks the full sweep of the motion (open/closed) and measures the voltage change... if it doesnt change then it will create an error code (7 flashes of the fi light).

as far as i am aware... a dealer cannot (with the KTM dealer tool), turn off the flies but tuneECU can (and possibly tuneboy). So borrow somones cable can go for it

Bic if you ride the bike into work one day when the weather improves I will pop down with laptop and lead and switch them off m8. Or if you can get your hands on a PC laptop I will post you the lead.

Thanks mate, I will probably take you up on that later in the year then. I'm not going to get time to remove the shafts till then anyway. Do you think it's worth just swapping over the RC8 stacks and removing the MH secondaries and just run the bike to see what it's like or wait till I can get a remap? Not sure how these changes would effect my map - which is currently really good. I'm having a day off work today so I'm going out riding - was thinking of heading up to HMRacing to see their new place and ask them about it.

Just removing the flies will put the light on too.

From what Highscore posted the big gains are from RC8 stacks and no shafts or flies. With shafts in I don't think the results were that impressive.

Skip, there will be a map on here that should suit your bike with the flies n shafts out. There's plenty for 08 onwards and our battle box isn't too far off motobox. You'd maybe pick up 1 or 2 brake with another custom map if you want it perfect. Personally I'd say another trip to Kevs and get it spot on with a new power run figure. In fact, with gubbins out, plus short stacks custom is the best option.

Viking, I have an '05, moved the flies a few years ago and my FI light does not come on.

That's weird. I unbolted mine and it came up with a secondary tps sensor fault straight away and brought the light on.

Anyone else tried it?

Tell me about it.. Copped a lot of criticism... I.e... Where's the proof about removing the flies and shafts... Why don't you just try it and reap the benefits... Its free and completely reversible

On a side note... The way the fins locate on the dvs is to act as a bit of a power blade at partial throttle openings.

Also for those interested, I was running the motohooligan flies for over a year. No secondary flies is a huge improvement as far as smoothing the bike out all throughout the rpm range. Thank you smart people.
