Shade, most sportbikes (racereps) have intakes on the nose cone and ducts (some through the headstock) to the airbox. I can't think of a naked bike that uses ram air.

I'd guess that KTM were happy with the intake system as it is.

I can't see much of a improvement in a ram air system on a superduke over the motobox. That said, any gain is good in racing.

I wander iff fitting a set of ,Aprilia tuono ,03,04,05, ramair scoops in the side kawells , tubed up to the center of the air box wood werk .

DUcati Pete , on the 07 bikes Ram airscoop under frunt lihgt

Ram air scoops on the older models were afixced on the side of the frame pushing the air through the frame into the air box .

the facktry is nice

Thanks, I forgot about the Tuono.

I know you've had head to head against tuono's Freestyler, I've matched my superduke against a friends RSVFactory down the long straights of snetterton.

In your opinion, how do the bikes compared in speed terms?

Hi GOGO great to have a go at this airbox thing. I owned an Aprilia RSV and as you are aware it has ram air and a lot of people do the airbox seal to top of the tank thing. On the aprilia it greatly improves midrange and gives some topend too. I had a look to do a similar system on the SD but you beat me to it. All I can say is that the SD and the aprilia motor have similar specs regarding torque and hp but the rsv seems to run away from the SD on a straight line, so maybe the ram air is the key?!?!

Yeah thanks ktmguy. We've been thinking about it for a while now too. With this economy just crushing local dealerships, I feel very lucky to even have the chance to race this year. We will be on a shoe-string budget, so it's time to get creative.. Popped the box out of it's pre-mold tonight. Man this is getting interesting. Never built something so cool before. This image is just the beginning of the base part of one of the ducts leading to the box. Much more work to do.

Yeah we have before, and for sure we'll get after runs to compare. Thing is though, our before runs were done on a different dyno - which does not have proper fans to pressurize the new box. It'll be easy enough to switch back to stock though. No stock parts are being altered.

bigash, what we are building replaces the entire top of the existing airbox. Fastens to the lower box just the same as stock (same four bolts). Only there is no top. The stock tank is the top. Plus it extends forward to up under the front tank bolt. Probably increases the airbox volume size by another 50%?

Sometimes projects like this grow farther and farther from your original vision (meaning worse and worse) as you fumble your way through reality. This one is quite the opposite I am happy to report. I'll keep updating. And thanks for all the help!
