Last Saturday I joined UCF Knight Riders Track Day. It was a blast on the SDR. The acceleration out of turns is stupid fast. So, what's "almost tragic" about that? Well, this was a group that I wasn't used to riding with. At JGP, there is a 'back straight' that isn't completely straight. It's a slight bend left, and the way the track was paved, puts two "kinks" in that section. Everyone with experience there knows that you drive hard out of T2 (left) which will push you to the outside (right) of the track to another rubble strip. Then you stay hard on the gas out there until you get to T3 (another left). So...if you are going to be passed by a quicker rider/bike, they will make a move to the inside and hammer it.

So...no more 600RR for me...so, I'm passing plenty coming out of T2. BUT...as I'm passing a control rider and someone he is following, the guy he's following decides to apex the second kink, coming over in front of me while I'm hard on the gas, and traveling 15-20 mph more than him. (this section of the track is usually 130 mph for me). I really thought we were about to wad up and tumble down the straight. Two destroyed bikes, and two ambulance riders. It was SUPER CLOSE. How close? Well, I was telling a friend about it thursday annd he asks "Was the other bike white?" Mind you, he was not there, nor did he hear of it prior. I said, "Yes, why?" Then he precedes to show me a small white paint mark on my headlight cover. HOLY SMOKES! That WAS close. Thank you Lord for keeping us from injury or death! Afterwards the control rider corrected Mr. Apex. He said that he was certain that he was going to hit my controls. Honestly, I thought his butt was going to hit my brake lever. Well, the back of my hand, because I was already hard on those brembos.

Unfortunately, my work (which is where I do most of my chatting here) blocks PhotoBucket...or anything else fun for that matter. Glad they haven't blocked this site. Shhhhh. But, if I can remember, I'll post a picture of the white paint mark. CRAZY.

I now pass unfamiliar riders with much less "passion".
