Booked for this as a run out on the bike to start the track season.

Doing the 2 days. Never been there before and heard good things. Booked Inters for both days to get the bike working and learn which way the track goes.

Anyone else fancy it.

Also its the international so there's an opportunity to spend a significant amount of time with your RC8 wide open in the MotoVudu stylee!

That's a really good vid. I'm already looking forward to going!
I've just asked Kev from Projex if he can come and I think he's keen.

One tip I remembered from being there last year - stay wide of the apex on the curve after Church. You miss the bumps and getter a better line into the uphill before the left hander into Rocket. It means you can stay flat out for longer and you are braking in a straight line uphill.

blb

blb

2012-01-16 12:02:00 UTC

That Lad is proper quick! Great quality vid too.

Certainly serves the purpose of making me want to go badly. Those straights will be awesome on the 8 as you say Dave, my bikes gonna be a bullet by the time this happens.

On trackdayriders forum one of the guys has checked the climate statistics for April and it looks very favourable too!

I was gonna go to the nurburgring again this year but I think I'm gonna sack all that off and spend the cash on some great days here. Can't wait!!!!

Viking

Viking

2012-01-16 16:35:00 UTC

Dave. Who's Kev? I'd that the guys who's doing your motor? What's he riding?

BLB. Good idea. I've said it about 40times already but incase you missed it.....I've got 9 Easytrack days prepaid ready to book so will be on track a fair bit this year. The gold pack looks expensive, but they throw in a free day so it works out £69 per trackday. Considering Oulton is over £170 in the summer it's a big saving.

With that vid I don't think it's any faster than we'd be. I timed him at a 1.41 so I'll use that as a reference time seeing as the Battle Bikes didn't do Anglesey. He's got us on the straights but I can see a good few places we'd make time on him. The SD would have 'im on corner exit and a few turns. The straight doesn't look long enough for the big bikes to get away. I know at Oulton I could carry more speed through Cascades and exit faster but the big I4's didn't really lift their skirt and get going until island so didn't really pull that much. I'll have that 10 Hz GPS timer running and the bullet cam so we can come back to this post an laugh me when I'm doing 2mins.

Crikey Viking you overestimate my track ability! If I manage a 1.41 lap i'll eat my hat! Trying to work out whats likely based on other tracks times. Donny GP 2.5 mile circuit 1.59 lap, Cadwell 2.2 miles 2.00 lap, Brands Indy 1.09 miles 1min lap.

Cerec has a great plan where we drive up to see Kev at Projex on the Saturday for some tuneecu action and then drive over and kip in the van ready for Sundays assault.

It's just to fast for me really , I have no idea what 4th gear is for , never used it . I changed my gearing a lot now so should be more fun.
Only a couple of hours drive for me so will be using the van Sunday morning.
If you have standard gearing on your RC8 , i would definately change it for anglesey.
Its the best track in the country for me I love it , really really grippy and easy to learn.
Just watch out for the rumble strips they are flag stones on top of each other.
The first left hander after start finish is the best Left hander in the country IMO , and you can genuinely scrape your knee at 120mph without sticking it out, on the long right hander leading onto the back straight
And if you are bongo your elbow

Agreed. There's places where it's spot on then some corners like the hairpin at Knockhill it's kinda inbetween gears. 2nd is too low and it's hard to get it back that far and 3rd is just a ballhair too high. Seemed to work very well at Oulton where your up 3rd, 4th, 5th a lot. Should be spot on for Anglesey.

Bob. That post on the corners has got me going. I love the fast flowing sweeping stuff. The long right looks and sounds fookin brilliant. That 1st left, from the vid anyway, looks like it could be tricky. It looks like the kinda corner I'd end up going in a bit to hot and run out of road on the exit. Definitely gonna grab an instructor for lines early on.

Asked my boss for the Sat off and it seems to have given him some super higher power where he thinks he can mess me about for weeks occasionally hinting at blackmail. Honestly, the way the pricks going on you'd think i was asking for a ride at his wife.

So it's looking like a 10hour shift, pack up, 6 hour drive, kip in the car then two days on track. This means i may have to partake in some Relentless. As Skip knows, i'm pretty caffine sensitive so this may result in two days of me foaming at the gash and talking at 300mph. I talk at 250mph as it is..................and i use the word fvck as a coma.........dont take offence.

If so a party of us would visit you for that evening.

So guys who is camping for the weekend? Anybody opting for the comfort of a B&B? The prospect of putting up a tent and sleeping in it if the wind is whipping off the sea don't appeal much

I'm camping.
Well, sleeping in the van.

Right guys, I'm afraid I won't make this.

I have the days booked off and I have the money.
I just don't feel like spending all that time on the road.
I'm suffering from jet lag big time at the moment and I have a busy schedule over the next few weeks.
I'd rather spend that weekend chilling out.

Just seen on TDR that the garages won't be up in time for this.

Does anyone have an awning to pit in that I can jump in with? Don't fancy rolling about in the open paddock working on the bike. Think there's a few TDR guys with awnings but I would like to be pitting beside the KTM guys as a 1st choice.

Cheers

I heard there's plenty power points round the paddock. Shouldn't be a prob

There is power there but you might need some long leads with the blue 16a industrial plug on the end and if your there on sat night park near the power stands, oh and save a place for me

What about chipping in to hire a gazebo that'd fit 7 bikes? Us Monday boys might need to chip in a bit more but at least we'd all be in the same place for the banter.

So excited now, this time next week, The bike will be on Kevs Dyno ready for Anglesey on Sunday and Monday.

Even better news is the pitstop cafe and bar at Anglesey will be staying open for us Sunday night and showing the motogp! I've been in contact with the owners via facebook.

So no need to trawl around Anglesey trying to find anywhere now.

Right. I'm bailing out this thread till late Fri or sat morn.

After 10 days of 16-20 deg C temps up here, totally tropical to me, complete with trucker style suntanned right arm and burnt forehead, it's now 2 deg C and snowing.

Yes. You read it right. fooking snowing. The sunburn is still calming down on my brow and I'm out working in full waterproofs and a wooly hat.

Now then. I am aware Anglesey is 300miles away. But if I have to load my bike in the snow. Then drive 300miles in slushy snow. Only to find the aforementioned snow is also at Anglesey and has brought it's freezing temps with it I am going to completely and utterly lose the fooking plot.

I'm calling on The Dave (tm).

Sort this shit out. If anyone can make it 20deg C and sunny Dave can

Sunday looks fine at the moment, maybe a bit cold but not bad. Monday looks like rain late afternoon. I'll be knackered by then anyway!

So have we got any gazebos or awnings or anything like that or are we just hanging out the back of vans in the day? Any ideas who's getting there first? Myself and cerec expect about 6pm. Never been to Anglesey so no idea what the journey is like across wales from Brum really. Also don't have a clue about paddocks etc.

TDR forum are on about getting a hog roast on Sunday night but tbh I'm just as happy to go in the new pitstop bar and watch the motogp.

The met office are currently showing a max of 9 and a min of 3 over the Sunday / Monday with light rain moving to heavy rain.
This bad weather is the trough between two bands of high pressure due to move through so its worth watching as it can all change over 24 hrs.

Right so long as it dont snow I will still be coming! SO just a little heads up that I will be at stoke council house car park at 11:30 until 12:00, then I will be going along the A52/A525 to whitchurch where I fill up for fuel. then along A525/A539 to liangollen then A5 to tregarth which leeds onto A55 which should take us there. With the fuel stop at whitchurch there should only be around 94 miles until destination, I will be calling in for a pub lunch on the way, who knows what pub?? I have been trying to talk to my misses that I may not be back on Sunday so I can watch the race and have some beers! If interested my number is 07910215756

Plus the knee probably won't go into leathers.
I promised to bring my generator so if BLB or Cerec want I can drop it off at Kev's today or meet them there tomorrow and they can borrow it and drop it back off on their way down south?

Binned off day two. Totally pissing down. And with no garages or cover it was looking like a very depressing wet event. After learning so much and taking a big leap forward decided to leave on a high.

Great to meet Sugarmonkey,BLB and Cerec1. That RC8 can fairly lift its skirt and get out those corners. Some good grunt there. Cerec1 was going well on those Pilot road tyres with loads of cuts. They almost looked like wets! Monkeys 690 R looks the nuts.

Think I might have got a nod off Fatbob as he came off track on an S1000RR

My little cheapo eBay cam didn't work and kept turning off. I think BLB got a few vids.............including his trip back in the trailer of shame.

Just home. Will update with pics etc later.

Don't be too hard on yourself mate. In some of those corners you had good speed compared to the other bikes, you just need relax into the bike and trust that it will stop for you.
Looks like a really nice track to smash around... Green grass, god I miss green grass.
