Broken hose clamp

Yesterday after(!) my last race at the track Zandvoort in the Netherlands, much water (we have to use water) of the cooling system was getting out of my SDR
At home I found a broken hose clamp (what a shitty thing!) next to the air box.
- Is this a common SD problem?
- How do I test the cooling fan without water in the system? It may be possible the water got too hot because of lack of cooling.

Thanx,
Eric

Another loosened cooling hose and a nearly tough down with the tarmac (water on my back tyre)
What's wrong with my SDR?

Had my share of problems with these clips during weekend. I was doing a short but fast paced touring across Finland and had a small break in one village in the middle of nowhere.

10 kilometres or so after my break I was passing some cars and after returning to my own lane took a quick look into clocks. Cooling system warning light was lit and temperature indicator bars all up and blinking. Pulled clutch in and cut out engine and let the beast roll while spotting for a safe place to stop.

When stepped of the bike I noticed strong smell of coolant and some steam was puffing out. Whole tail section of the bike, tyre included, covered with red coolant. Had another cigarette while watching other bikers fly by me and thinking what to do. I had just a small backpack with me but no water bottles or anything to use to refill cooling system. I called my wifey and ask her to bring me some water and possibly pick me up if bike is unrideable. While waiting I did some searching in the bushes and found some old washer fluid canister. Luckily there was a lake just other side of the road and I used canister to add some water to find out where the leak was.

Hose coming just behind front cylinder was popped out. Luckily clip was still there and I tried to tighten it up a bit and re-seated hose. Added some more water and tried to do a kind of bleeding without actually doing the bleeding. Bike was running ok, no strange noises or bubbles in radiator or anything hinting of any bigger damage. Drove remaining 30km to my destination and noticed that expansion bottle was quite empty while arrived.

After some relaxation in form of Sauna and swimming in a lake I replaced clip with a proper clip, flushed lake water out from the system and refilled with plain water. Next day drove ~400km back to my home without any issues. So now I'm going to flush the system once again and replace water with proper coolant mixture.

Is it just 'R' or have SD suffered the same problem ?

The front cylinder hoses came off my SDR, luckily a car driver flagged me down
KTM will replace them with the same type of clips, however I was advised by my local KTM dealer, who raced them, to replace with jubilee clips.
