I just signed up for Lee Parks Horse-Thief Mile track experience.
Sunday May Fourth. I'm taking the SD and my DRZ 400. The DRZ is not a motard but I'll mount some more tarmac worthy rubber and see what a twenty one inch front can handle.
There are eight spots left and the track should fit an SD well. Anyone else?

It's a fun little circuit - pretty wide believe it or not. Much nicer than the usual kart/cone tracks people flock to for SM.
While more often used for cars, it's fun on a bike: Turn, turn, turn - including some challenging decreasing radius ones. Plus the whole thing is kind of rolling - some elevation changes to make it interesting.
You'll have a good time out there!

Thanx, I thought it could keep me busy in the corners without the high speed drama. I like forty five mile per hour corners far more than eighty mile per nervousness.

Noting your taking the DRZ - you'll have more fun on the SD IMO, but the DRZ could be entertaining too.
Once, when I was out there, there was this crazed guy on a ratty KLR. Contrary to what one may have thought by his appearance, he was a damn fine rider - made pretty good time around, because he was damn smooth at the controls. LOL - he was on some kind of streetable knobs.
It was memorable, because he had ridden in (not trucked his bike) and while he had a decent jacket, helmet, boots (adv touring type), and gloves - for riding pants he was wearing blue jeans that had some kneepads duct-taped on. Serious. You know the kind - people use for sport, gardening, etc.
He only got a couple laps in before they flagged him (escorted, actually), and someone gave him some leathers to wear. Don't be that guy (except the riding part).

Well, it was a great experience. I showed up at the track on Saturday and milled around watching the Total Control school go through the lessons. That night I camped in the bed of my pick-up and woke once in a while to watch the Big Dipper circle the North Star. I ussually camp in a tent so open sky camping was a treat.
I was up looking at Dawns crack, made coffee, and walked the track at six AM. I was the only one who stayed at the track overnight so it was rather peaceful. Then the usual chaos and sleepy headed track day start that seems to take forever.
The track is flipping perfect for an SD. It has steep climbs, tight turns, a chicane, downhill heavy trail braking corner. I had myself a wonderful time and I highly recommend those in the area to put this track on the short list of possible tracks to explore.
I shot my wad one session earlier then the end and opted out of the last session. I find that the cramping and brain overload is getting earlier with age so I played it safe. I'm so fuckingsore this morning.
Sears Point is still my favorite but this is closer and slower. I can sure appreciate the slow, technical tracks with this bike.
