Just bought upper fairings and new tank for my track bike

Just got an '07 fuel tank (black) off eBay in US for 350USD. Result!!! Some road rash on it, but otherwise in good nick. Adding it to my new upper fairings (on rashed the other fine) and R&G crash bungs (engine upper and lower and axle sliders) and I am almost there. The only thing I am missing is a nose cone. Does anyone know if I can use the standard instrument cluster with the Replicast.co.uk nose cone? Will post some pics when I get it sorted. Thanks for any advice......

Before i go into too much detail what year is your bike?

If its an early 1 with the seperate speedo & rev counter then you wont fit both into the Replicast nose cone. My solution was to fabricate a holder for the rev counter, ditch the speedo and run the Battle bike loom with just the 3 lights (FI, Oil & Neutral).

Let me no if you want/need pics!

If you have a later bike with the 1 peice speedo/rev counter then it just bolts straight onto the Replicast cone!

Cool!! Thanks for the response. It's an '08 so it has the one piece instrument panel. I can just bolt it on top of the Replicast piece? Excellent news. Yes I'd love photos please if you have any? Cheers matey! Top man!

(I have just added one RH tail fairing and a set of spare levers to my spares collection. Just got to fit them by 1st week of May.I'll post photos when I get it sorted).

If you have the 08 then no probs, bolt straight on. My pics will be no good to you as i have the earlier rev counter

I haven't got into the detail of the headlight mounting yet. I guess I need to start dismantling the unit to see what the fixings are? I guess I could build myself a bracket that supports the instruments using the mounting points for the headlight cluster then just make a simple flat cover/race number plate. It won't look as good as the fiberglass nose cone assembly but it will do the same job I guess. I have a spare touring windscreen, I wonder if I could build that into the project?

My fairings, tank and frame sliders arrived..yey! Forgot that the tank would have a keyed cover that I don't have the key for. DOH!!!! I can undo the mounting bolts and pull the cap (i think that the overflow drain hose is still holding it in place right? Do I just pull???). Once I have it off, is there a generic, cheap, non-lockable version that I can buy that will fit? Is the mounting pattern the same as for Jap bikes?

Thanks for any help!

I think you have a problem, there is an additional bolt holding it on that can only be accessed by unlocking the cap so if you can't get the cap unlocked then you're screwed.

The cap fitment is the same as a triumph or Aprillia, a few on ebay.

When you finally get the gas cap off you can stick 1 of these on -

He does them for the SD in lots of colours. (ive had 1 on for over a year with no problems)

Thanks for the feedback. I didn't get a chance this weekend to work on the bike. I only got time to fit the R&G upper frame slides (They are long!!!). I will take a look at the tank I have on now then I will drill out the old lock if I need to get inside to another screw. I wanted to avoid this because of the risk of getting metal swarf in the tank. With the six mounting bolts out the thing is really loose but there is something holding it. I was wondering if it was the overflow drain hose, but I will look for this other screw fitting tonight.

The tank cap looks good. A lot chep than the ones I could find. I think that I will go for that. Thanks!

I drilled out the lock fine. I was very lucky. The lock gave up really easy before I was anywhere near through so no swarf in tank. There is a separate allen screw inside which comes off really easy. Does anyone have a tank removal procedure?

It's easy mate.

Take off the rad shrouds.
Pull off the breather pipe located on the left side front of tank.
Remove big bolt at front.
Lift tank, located fuel pump connection and disconnect.
Located fuel line to throttle bodies and disconnect that (it's self sealing)
Take out the little clip that secures the prop stand for the tank to the tank and lay the stand down.
Return the tank down.
Now just remove the 2 allen bolts that secure the rear of the tank.

You can now lift the tank off and put it somewhere where you won't trip over the fooker in the next ten minutes.

Changed the tank. It was an absolute doddle as it turned out. Swapped the filler cap from the original tank into the new one and i was done. Biggest problem was emptying the completely full tank. There really is no easy way to do this. I settled on the time old method of not giving a fook and pouring most of it over the driveway. Fitted the fairings and I am done. Yey! Mirrors removed, glass taped, frame slider fitted. All ready for Saturday. Yey! I'll post pics when a get a chance.

UPDATE: Just posted some pictures of the bike as set up for last weekend. All R&G frame sliders fitted. The rear stand bobbins fit pretty well with the rear axle sliders. I didn't get the headlight replacement from Replicast yet. Still not sure if I am going to get one of these? The tank is from ebay as are the upper fairings and tail fairings. I removed the brushed aluminium heat shields. I will get some Yoshi when I get a chance, but to be honest, Yoshi's aren't what is holding back my lap times.
