Superduke track day

Finally took my Superduke to a trackday, 2 days at Phakisa (South Africa) this past weekend. It's where Rossi first rode the Yamaha to victory, first race of 2004.

It's really designed for race-reps and I thought my bog-standard SD would be a little out of it's depth. Not a chance, did a 2min dead, where my best was a 1min57.5 on a Blade (also standard) last year Feb. Only 2 and a half seconds at a gp track, come on!
The race guys in the fast group were doing 1m47's with their supercorsa's, ohlins and tirewarmers, so I'm not THAT far off (I keep telling myself)...

Bike's strengths;
Brakes - Awesome, never faded and heaps of feel. Overtook 50% of the time on the brakes... The other 50% of the time, around the outside !

Turn in (and change of direction) - Incredible! I could turn so much later than me on the Blade. AND my entry speed was higher than on the Blade too, which makes such a late turn in phenomenal!

Accuracy - The Blade, quite frankly, felt like a barge in comparison. It is ridiculously easy to hit apex's on the SD. And remember, this at higher corner speeds too!

Comfort - 25min max out on the Blade and I'm tired (I'm disgustingly inflexible for a 29 year old). After grinding my toesliders to plastic dust in the first session (slow learner), I actually climbed off MORE than the Blade. Even so, I easily managed two 40min sessions late Sunday afternoon when I was already tired. I only came in because the fuel light was on for 7 laps (32-odd km, not taking chances)!

Weakness;
The top-end power. I'd actually catch 1000 fours exiting the corner), but as they got into the power, sheesh! It's one HELL of a difference. Three straights, and they slaughter me there (difference of 30kph).

I'm obviously too slow to need a slipper clutch, no hassles (phew, they're expensive)...

All in all, brilliant, fun and unique. We had lots of visitors to our pits, they were all VERY impressed (as they should be, since I passed most of them

This is one special bike. All it needs is a full system and custom map. Doesn't need anything else, it's perfect for me.

Oh, my Dad took it out for one session and came back in after 5 laps, said the handling was way too frisky for him. Oh I love my bike

Well done RRSmurf, sounds like you had a cracking time on a cracking bike.
