I'll whisper this so the TDO's don't hear.

How do you guys get on timing your trackdays? I'm off to Brands in 3 weeks and want to know what I can get away with.

I have an android app that does gps lap timing that relies on the phone being visible by the satellites, I got away with it at the Nurburgring cos they don't care. How do I get away with it at UK tracks tho?

I was thinking about a Bluetooth GPS adapter on the bike and my phone in my leathers inside pocket or under the seat. I can't use racechrono cos its not compatible with Android phones. Do these adapters work under the seat?

Do the TDO's/Marshalls look out for these things now? any experience?

There are some great apps on Android market, I could also use my ipod touch with the Bluetooth gps adapter.

I suppose what I should be asking is has anyone used one of these Bluetooth gps things successfully?

Back in the day when all this were fields you could get an Alfano pro lap timer from a go cart on e bay for about 70 quid. Put the sensor thingy down in your belly pan (you needed an extended lead) and every time you crossed a magnetic strip you got a lap time, no turning on / off relying on bletooth witchcraft etc etc.I imagine this method still works even though Brands has been resurfaced.

I have no idea about the satelite bollocks or bluetooth jiggery pokery I may try it sometime in the future but until bluetooth can manage a reliable sigal between my phone and hands free kit in my van (never more than 3ft apart and travelling at 60mph max) I an unlikely to invest in that nonsense for my bike.

Ive used racechrono on a samsung mobile with a seperate bluetooth gps! The gps is about the size of a matchbox and i used to stick it on the top of the headlight cowl fully visable! No1 ever questioned it or even looked at it twice! Phone either went under seat or in pocket of leathers!
Racechrono is free, mobile phone was old (so didnt cost anything) and the gps was £20!

I cant be bothered anymore and if im that interested il just time my GoPro video footage!

I've done it off the gopro footage, at 60 frames per second you can get it very accurate, takes a little time going through all your laps though.

I have some kind of lap timer from the app store that I paid money for but never tried yet, not sure which one it is, it just says lap timer, the icon is a picture of a Caterham (or something along those lines) & a chequered flag

They still let us set up the IR transmitter here. Used it for years at trackdays. not anymore.
...ain't racing or planning to anymore. Don't care.
When you hit pit out with your buds, you'll find out quick who's fast & last.

Ordered one of these https://www.emprum.com/ultimategps.php to work with the laptimer pro app on my iphone updates a 5Hz will tell you how it goes, also looking to get one of the wireless OBD sensors for Datalogging, Gear indication etc.
http://www.gps-laptimer.de/Compatibility.html.
Would be nice to be able to integrate the Iphone with my Hero Camera rather than using the Iphones Camera for integrated video.
