Totally agree with you about the fuelling.
When I had my Adv 950 S in 04,the fuelling was spot on.
The fuelling on both the SD and RC8 was not,but you do get used to it and accept it for what it is-BUT YOU SHOULDN'T HAVE TO.
I've just come back from France having done 600 miles on the SE in 2 days to run it in and it was a revelation.
I'd forgotten just what a stunning engine the carbed 950 was.
Ok,my SE has Akras and the needles up one to compensate, which makes it even better than standard, but it was just brilliant, and so tractable, totally unlike the SD and to a slightly lesses extent, the RC8 too.
With ref to you guessing the revs, the SE handbook gives a guide to speeds in gears for running in first 600 miles :
1st-30 mph
2nd-40
3rd-60
4th-60
5th-85
6th-100.
I pretty much stuck to this but gassed it this morning as it was over 600 miles on the odo anyway by then .
Saw 120 on clock with plenty more, but only on back roads in Brittany.

So what's the difference between std 950SM and the SMR?
(oh, and you use the word 'nice' quite a lot - tells me it's not my kind of bike )

The brakes get better and better, the handling superbly sharp and responsive and it does everything at least as well as the Superduke but without the 'snatchy/responsive' fuelling of the SD.
The wife did 20 miles on it and was really impressed, so much so that she's now coming on the trackday at Cadwell on 4th Sept.
I thought honestly the Superduke was the best bike ever made..
I was wrong.

However it does handle WAY better than 'comfort' settings. It's getting better and better.
Trying a few changes in riding style as prompted by Crust and that's working well, DAMN it increases the lean andlge of the bike... or certainly how far it FEELS like it's leaning anyway
JEEEEZ i want my horse power and RPM though..... 350 miles to go
I'm really looking forward to another SDer trying the bike out...

Took in pretty much each and every type of road possible today, the bike simply takes them all in it's stride and says "go on... ride harder"
Power and performance is like a tame and sublime Superduke. It's not quite as fast, or as grunty, but is a LOT smoother and 'nicer' to ride than the SD.
Been revving it a bit harder now and it pulls superbly smoothly. So much so that i'm debating whether to even fit the 16T front next Friday when it's in for it's service. Might leave with 17/41 for now to give the wife a nice easy trackday and make it a fraction more economical for Spa trip in 6 weeks.
You boys really need togive one of these a whirl

At firt wanted and SM, the SD had that agressive look and I thought hte riding position was closer to RR's bikes.
But then I test the SD and it was almost identical position ( just a little bit more toward the front...) and a edgy engine with a great sound of the V2.
Found a better price on the SD and went for it. But would be just as happy with the SM.
Glad you're having a great time and almost at the end of break in
Let the trashing beggins!!!
