Well the title says it all...
Its basically stock with only sliders and belly skid pan.
Anyone have one? What to expect?
Im buying it to learn wheelies/stunts and be a beat around bike because its lighter and more nimble. The SV650 just doesnt have the KTM hooligan fun factor Im grown to love...

Thanks!

LOL - where does one ride such things in Iowa. In winter.

Get a 690 Enduro R, and convert it. At least you could ride that in winter ...

If you have a SuperDuke, I don't get what the point would be in any case. No puny single could ever be "hooligan" enough.

Don't wheelie it too far, I was so proud of wheelieing mine for a mile, then found out it causes oil starvation and a £1200 engine rebuild.

Akro can is a good mod, plus rejet and cut some of the top out the airbox.

I had one a few years ago. the 625 SMC is the best incarnation of all the LC4s, a good compromise between the hooligan 660 and the 640LC4. The tank is smaller, but the airbox is bigger, and you get some of the engine internals from the 660. Mine made a genuine 61 RWBHP when set up at HMRacing in Kent.

(Don't be tempted by a 660. They are cool - and often cheap - but kickstart-only sucks on a cold day - and the engines are bored out to the limit, so they brake down a lot. Not having a proper ignition isn't exactly a 'security feature' either. Many have been raced too)

Make sure the previous owner was anal about what oil he used and how often he topped it up. Issues with Head castings (cracks between the valve stems), plus the clutch bearing were resolved by 2006, but they still drink oil (like all KTMs). Head race bearings take a beating as they are wheelie machines (2nd gear, 25mph, dip and crack - yeeha). Oil starvation is rare - unless you are a wheelie god and keep it on the back wheel for half a mile.

You will want an aftermarket pipe or at least endcans.... Akra full Ti systems are rare, but do come up S/H. Used to be around £700 so may be less now.

The one you've pictured is th newer twin pipe - which has a smidge more midrange, and prettier rear end, but a harder seat. I liked my old single-sider better, as the seat was so much nicer. My cousin (Usagi on the KTM Forum) still has his twin piper and he rides it every day all year round, commuting in London, or even for trips out to his parents in the back of beyond countryside. He'd come out with me and the Superdukers on trips to Finchingfield and been able to keep up fine. IIRC he even did London to Birmingham for the NEC a few winters ago. Get one.

Decent rear tyres will last 1000miles max. Avoid the sexy looking Goldspeeds as they cause a speed wobble (aka deathweave) above 70mph due to the shrp profile. I likes running an Avon Pro Extreme Rain front matched with a BT92 rear. Mutants would be a good choice too.

No idea about prices these days, but even if it's a low mileage minter then surely it would be well under 2750 private?

I miss mine...

Thanks for the replys. Sounds like mixed feelings.
I like the electric and kick start feature.
I realise the KTM SuperDuke is the Hooligan master, but Im not looking to drop my SD or abuse it as im sure I will do the 625smc... I just am not comfortable with all the power/weight of the SD while learning to "play" around.

If I was getting a winter bike then I'd be very tempted by the 690 Enduro and just get a set of SMs for it. Can have fun in the mud or on the lanes. Perfect compromise.

Worth getting if it's the right price IMO. I had a 2004 one and thrashed the nuts off it,wheelied it everywhere then sold it on with 16800 mile's on it

I woudn't mind having an 625 SMC next to my SD.

Like you, I'd like to have a lighter, cheaper bike to trash and play around and the LC4 625 SMC is perfect ( ppl have already said the good and bad about it, just make sure you choose a well maintained one and keep an "ear" for head cam chain noises and loose bolts ehehe )

But working and family hours already leave little time to ride the SD, so no point in buying the 625.

Go for it and share the training sessions ehehe
